Year Round Schooling

There is a normal form of education where we have students attend school for 9 months and rest for 3, but in this updated system of year round schooling, schools continue to operate 180 days per year, the only difference being that they stretch out the 180 days over the entire year and take shorter breaks between each term. Having an alternative to education regarding attending year round is the most beneficial way to reach the ultimate form of success for a student. Even in a situation where the teacher miss school due to sickness or any family matter they held back their whole class because of the day the teacher miss they aren't able to teach material the students need to be prepared. While in a year round school, that wouldn't be a problem because time is always in their side. Even if the student misses class they would still be able to be in same term with the other student because of all the time they have and get the chance to get back in pace. Same case for the teacher because even if they miss school they can still have their student ready. Time is always with year round schools and they can take their time to teach student and with more time can better truly understand the subject and truly be prepared in the future.

Each year, school districts are faced with a growing population of students. The issue with this is that many districts have a shortage of school facilities, and they are limited to the amount of money they can spend on each of these facilities. To handle this issue, school districts around the world have adopted a year-round school calendar to ensure they are using these existing school facilities to their full ability. Year-round schooling arranges the breaks differently, causing students to be in school all throughout the year, rather than having three months off in the summer. In addition to maximizing the use of the schools, year-round schooling improves student learning and saves money in the long run.…

One reason that I am against year round schools is it would cost a lot more money than a traditional school. One example of this is in the summer months of school, the school would have to pay for the AC unit to run. If the school didn't have an AC, then they would have to pay for the unit to be put in which can cost up to 25 million dollars in an average school. Another money problem that the school can face is repairs to the building. In a traditional school, they have three months to make repairs to the building, but in a year round school, they have to pay for more workers to finish what they need them to do in one month.…

In a year-round school, it may be hard to maintain a job or travel with family in the one month of summer that the school gives students as their summer break. Laura Kelsey, author of “Should You Give Up Summer Vacation” claims, “year-round schools have roughly the same number of vacation days as traditional school calendars” (Kelsey 28). The traditional school calendar gives students 3 months of summer vacation, allowing students and teachers a much needed break. Some would argue that those summer months are the downfall to losing some of the material taught in the previous year of school. However, Kelsey also states, “Learning doesn’t have to stop for kids on long summer breaks.…

Matthew Lynch, in his article “The Disadvantages of Year-Round Schools”, effectively describes the disadvantages of year-round education, making his rhetoric particularly powerful with the examples he gives. He describes in detail the “detriment to family structure” that year-round school systems have which directly and adversely affects the child because spending time with people and family members is critical in development (Lynch). This along with the possibility of children within the household attending two schools with different schedules and the statement saying that year-round education may not allow for academic strides is a particularly well-suited example for the disadvantages of year-round schooling (Lynch). It forms a connection between the parents who are considering year-round education and Lynch because it makes the parents consider what the effects of year-round education will really be on their child and whether it is really worth sending their child to a school like…
