On average, a slave is worth 90 dollars in the trafficking business... a human being, worth less than a pair of nice shoes. A trafficker can earn up to 20 times what he or she paid for a slave. A 2003 study in the Netherlands found that on average, a single slave could make their trafficker 250,000 dollars a year. With that study being such a long time ago, the amount could have raised greatly. Ludwig “tarzan” Fainberg, a convicted trafficker speaking for experienced slaves said, “you can buy a woman for 10,000 and make your money back in a week if she’s pretty and young. Then everything else is profit.” They could be sold for more because their trafficker has trained them and has broken their spirit.
According to WBTV, “North Carolina ranks the 8th most likely state in the US were human trafficking take place”. Traffickers not only find victims through social medias, bars, and clubs, they find them in our neighborhoods. That alone makes one think about their family and loved ones, but some family’s will often sell their children and other family members into this slavery.
