I found the Longevity Game on Northwestern Mutual’s website to be a quick, fun look into my own behaviors about life and aging. The first thing that stood out to me was that I do not know my blood pressure, even though I should. I do not visit the doctor as often as I should. It was also interesting to witness my life expectancy predictor increase when I selected that I always wear a seatbelt when driving and that I have no accidents or violations in the past three years. Yet, immediately after those questions, I was greeted with a question about drinking, and I knew immediately that the life expectancy meter was about to drop. I do not drink heavily, but I do go out with friends about once or twice a week after work, and because of my choice, the meter dropped by four years. At the end of the test, I was awarded five-stars, and the website told me that I am living a healthy lifestyle. The final life expectancy meter read 77 years.
I am mostly healthy when it comes to diet and exercise, although I can certainly stand to eat more vegetables. I do not always care for vegetables, so I find myself struggling to willingly eat them often enough. I should consider a healthy and light snack of baby carrots instead of a bag of chips the next time I sit down to watch a movie. I do not smoke or do drugs, so that is beneficial towards my life expectancy, but as I mentioned before, I do drink when I go out with friends. I tend to always…
