GOD’S TORCH
An experience and/or event(s) that will influence my academic work and/or goals at Colorado Christian University is to do the very best I can with what “The Good Jesus” gives me. I try to make a conscious effort to work for God and not for man. Because I carry God’s spirit in my heart, it has been a way of life for me. It is God that has always been my influence.

Although I never seem to stop my analytical thinking, I am a taciturn and demure type of person. Because I was orphaned as a toddler, my upbringing was by bourgeois and extremely orthodox catholic nuns in Texas where I was born. For the martinet catholic nuns, it could only be their way. I believe they did the best they could with what they had and knew. After

In today’s world, religion is often a subject where one is encouraged to tread lightly, where constructive criticism has seemingly lost its place to passionate claims of heresy. Thus, it is only fitting that a book co-written by a self-proclaimed modernist, in Marcus Borg, and an undeniable traditionalist, in N.T. Wright, takes the form that we see in The Meaning of Jesus Christ: Two Visions. Each section of the book is broken down into two separate chapters; one written through the viewpoint of Marcus Borg and one as seen by N.T. Wright. What results is a seemingly flawless representation of what the discussions about Christianity should look like when taken from the various independent sects of the larger religion. This book showed its readers…

The stories of Jesus are represented through the four New Testament Gospels: Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John. Each Gospel emphasizes on particular principles that represent Jesus differently. The portrayal of Jesus in the Gospel of St Matthew and St Mark significantly helps enrich the lives of Christians today by leading and guiding them the ways of Jesus. The portrayal of Jesus allows Christians to understand and believe that there is only one God whom they call Father and Jesus as the Son of God who was sent to save mankind from death and sin. Throughout both Gospels, Jesus was notably portrayed as a teacher, messiah, and each Gospel was targeted towards different audience, depicting the different images of Jesus for Christians and non-Christians. To begin with, the Gospel of Matthew portrays Jesus as a teacher, who taught and guided Christians to God’s way. An abundance of moral teachings of Jesus is evident in the Gospel of…

Savior, counselor, friend, redeemer, shepherd, and I Am, are only some of the names brought to mind when confronted with who Jesus is, with a key one being Immanuel, or God with us. The exhaustive list should speak for itself in that Jesus encompasses every plausible Godly characteristic fathomable to man. While the human race assigns numerous titles to describe Jesus, personal introspection of who Jesus is might differ from that of a worldly viewpoint. Thus, deliberating on Jesus in a biblical sense via the Gospels from a collectivistic and individualistic stance, as well as through a contemporary lens, offers a well-rounded vantage point on His persona. Jesus is wonderfully Scripture has withstood the test of time and still is the most comprehensible source for demystifying the person known as Jesus.…

Many scholars have wondered if sources other than the Gospels recorded information about Jesus, His life and His ministry. This curiosity lead them to finding three main outside sources, Pagan sources, Jewish sources, and second- and third-century sources, that scholars have scrutinized to see if they contain information about Jesus that is not portrayed in the Gospels. Unfortunately, none of these outside sources provide much detail about Jesus and his ministry, however, some of them do mention Jesus. For example, one Pagan source does not even mention Jesus until the early second century. Pliny, a Roman governor, wrote about a religious cult called “Christians.”…

Jesus’ identity and purpose has been a great source of discussion and investigation through the years. Although many people do not seem to believe in the importance and legacy of His life, there are many profs and facts that show the meaning of His days physically living in our world. Jesus came to show us the correct way to live and direct our actions towards others. For example, in Matthew 5:43-48, Jesus speaks about loving one’s enemies. He mentions how important it is to love, bless and pray for those who curse, hate, use and persecute us (Matthew 5:44).…
