I am a Mexican-American woman with certain views of the world. I don’t believe that my place in the world is next to a man, nor do I believe that my sole purpose in life is to procreate. I am a woman who needs and wants her independence. I am also a 33 years old working class woman.…
It has been declared that the Mexican culture is not getting proper education, they are not advancing by refusing to be seen by a physician instead they prefer to be seen by a Curandero. The Mexican culture prevention plan will abide by these three conditions family, education, and the Spanish language. The proposition includes educating adolescents on safe sex and STI’s. When educating the adolescents, it will be extremely successful if parents are invited to join, the lectures can be both in English and Spanish. It will be very important to discuss the use of condoms and why it is important to see a physician for check ups. In this prevention plan one will be discussing the differences between a Curandero and a Physician and why it is important…
Latinos will change the profile of American culture throughout the following two decades. The Hispanic population will develop much faster then any other ethnicity group in the United States, and Hispanic shoppers will speak to an expanding rate of the American buyer base. Through the first decade of the 21st century we have all supported a critical development of the Hispanic society in the United States. It is not unpredictable to say that the Hispanic are building up a solid and intense impact in all zones, and changing the method for our nation sees in organizations, workmanship, food, and votes. Currently, it is the biggest minority and quickest developing gathering in the United States speaking to right around 16% of the US population,…
I am very interested in the Hispanic cultural. I have put a lot into getting to know this culture by visiting the Niagara cafe and talking to my friend Hugo who I have interviewed for this paper. He identifies as Mexican American, and is “hispanish and Latino” he says. This means he is ethnically and racially part of the Hispanic Community. “Only about 25 percent of Hispanic Americans use Hispanic or Latino to describe themselves” (page 217).…
Jaslyn Mendez Reilly Honors ELA 10 October 11, 2017 I Am Me Yo soy Jaslyn, and I am Latina. I’m a Mexican girl who was born in the United States of America, which makes me Mexican American. I’m Mexican, I was born in Mexico but then brought over here to the US when I was around 3 years old. My whole family was born in Mexico and I’m the youngest child which means that all of my brothers and sister grew up for most of their childhood in Mexico and my oldest sister even got married over there. We eventually all moved over here and that resulted in our family being very culturally connected with Mexico’s culture. My mother is a strong believer in continuing cultural traditions even if we are in a different place. So she made sure we always knew a lot about where we came from or special traditions that were done in Mexico.…
Yo soy un orgullosa Peruana. I was raised in a Peruvian household by my parents, who were immigrants that came to America for job opportunities. My parents have passed down Peruvian traditions from certain foods to cultural dances. Within my community, I perform huayno, a cultural dance that demonstrate the love of my heritage. Moreover, I volunteer at El Centro Hispano, an organization that supports the Hispanic community in any means of educational programs and advocacy.…
The group I chose to research was the Hispanic culture. I do not know much about the Hispanic culture nor have had much experience working with this culture. Sometimes it can be hard to work with or surround yourself with people when your cultures are not the same, therefore getting to better know the values and customs of a Hispanic will help me to make sure my clients get the most from me Knowing more about the people that I am dealing with is the best way to ensure a good client to counselor relationship. The Hispanic culture is one of the fastest growing cultural groups in the United States. The U.S. Census data indicates that Hispanics will be the largest minority group by the year 2050 (U.S. Bureau of the Census, 1992).…
Growing up as a Hispanic woman in America, I constantly switch back and forth with which culture I identify with most. Growing up I fully embraced my American culture, but as I started to get older, I started to identify more with my Hispanic culture. Having to always choose one side, has always left me feeling guilty for not embracing the other culture. Throughout the paper, I am going to use the term Hispanic to describe my Latin origin.…
I also love volunteering within the community. Every year I help with a walk that supports kids with Angelman Syndrome. I also help clean up the Quittapahilla Creek when bad storms hit the town, and I coach youth basketball and field hockey. I have always had a passion for school and I am very involved. I played both varsity field hockey and varsity basketball since my freshman year.…
My involvement in the community is through two distinct opportunities: my church and the numerous projects our school Rice Elementary participates in each year. Through my church I have taught Sunday school, served as a camp counselor, taught in Vacation Bible School, chaired countless outreach committees and volunteered numerous hours in the children’s ministry. I love serving the community through my…
