I look at problems in unique ways. I make connections between topics, in my life and in my classes, to try to make sense of the world and attempt to apply what I have learned in the classroom to my life. I want to learn, and I want to understand how things connect into a bigger picture. As my lab manager expressed, “you are not afraid to question just about anything.” In this sense, my goal is to understand how things fit together into complex wholes, and in my mind I piece them together in distinctive and creative ways. Success is knowing I did everything I could, whether socially or academically, to display to others and myself what I am capable of. It is knowing that there was nothing more that I could have done to make a situation or outcome better. I will organize my life around situations that challenge me as a person as well as give me opportunities to interact with and assist others. I will choose a career path that challenges me and forces me to rethink how I look at specific problems and how I think about the world in general, in addition to having practical applications to improve the lives of others. I will organize my life and my effort so that when I do not succeed, it is not due to a lack of trying. Overall, my goal should be to organize my life in a way that allows me to push myself to achieve to the highest of my potential and perform to the best of my ability. In the future, it will be important to learn to trade some of my future orientation for the goals of others and for my own present happiness. I will have to trade off my time and my energy in order to help others, which is something I am willing and find pleasure in doing.
