Clearly, even while home with his family, the true source of contentment and testament of success, his concern for work, prevented him from truly connecting to those that truly matter. He can be replaced at work, but not as a husband or father. The article shows him as a man who worked himself to death and a failure with his family. Phil was so blinded by his thoughts, that he spent his entire life focusing on work, never seeing the bigger picture in his life. I think that Phil is partially successful whereas Vicomtesse is a sufferer and not a successful person. As described in the story, Vicomtesse does not appear happy in the story. She does not have an aim in life and an aimless life means no goals, which leads to no success in her life. She is just passing her life and not enjoying it. Phil, on the other hand, has the taste of success at work but not at home. Success is achieving my daily goals in my school and household life. I have learned that success is never gained if you give up on yourself. Success comes with dedication and hard work towards the goals. Another factor that makes a person successful is being optimistic in life. Self-confidence and determination are the key factors for reaching your goals. People who aim to accomplish success, set goals to help them determine if they have attained success. Any goals not met indicate that you are still striving for success and working towards it. Another way of knowing if you have accomplished success is when you feel contentment and harmony in your life with your actions and reactions.
I think Vicomtesse is not successful in her life, while Phil is partially successful. Vicomtesse has had failures in life, for example, hunger, no family life, and homelessness. Whereas Phil has had failures with his family and success at work. In the article, the characters do not have a balanced life. Success is fulfilling a purpose and maintaining a balance in your life.
