Mackoy On Success

The Webster Dictionary defines success as, “getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame”. While this describes some aspects, I think there is a lot more to success. I believe that success is about glorifying God by making an impact in people's lives. One of the most successful people I know is my grandfather, Jerry Mackey, who has impacted more people than we can even count.

My grandpa has been successful in many ways during his lifetime. He served our country in the U.S. Army by installing radio towers in Japan for three years, being married to his wife, Joan, for 63 years and having five children, by owning several restaurants called HiBoy, helping to bring cable television to Independence, Missouri, by owning one of the first movie theaters

From the moment man stepped foot on the porous soil of earth, an inner-voice began to awaken from within the confines of cerebral tissue; a compelling force that enables man to chose between both what is right, and that which is not. Is it a higher power, or the complex mechanics of evolution that is to blame for the establishment of this subconscious observer? Did the creative force bestowing mankind with such a powerful tool know the extent to which it would be used? As impossible as these questions appear to answer, it is evident that this concealed power is a seemingly inherent motivating influence in human decision-making. For the sake of argument and the purpose of this paper, this intuitive metaphysical force will be regarded as free-will,…

The definition of successful means to have attained wealth, position, honors, or the like but it is much more than that. In order to be considered truly successful all of those things must be attained through hard work, doing it the honest way, and ultimately being happy. There are two characters in the book, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, that are great examples of being successful. Herbert Pocket, and Joe Gargery are both successful because they have attained a good life doing all of the things that define a successful person while going straight, and being happy and content with themselves and those they love.…
