Personal Narrative: My First Vietnam War

I got on top of a pillar and looked around, in the past two days my army decreased nearly by half. Every man was scared, I could see the look in their eyes as I stared at them and they stared back with great distress.
I start to call the force lineup “Attionnnn…”
And realized that the field that was once full of happy animals had now become a deserted land of cold a lifeless place where in just moments rivers of blood would flow and brothers would kill brothers. . I continued to express my mind with the soldiers but this time with a different topic and different moment “In the last two days we have lost too many brothers. Too many families have been ruined, too many kids now don’t

I asked myself “Was this win really a win?” “All the families that were now ruined, and those people that were either dead or dying, was this win really worth it?”
I saw one of my soldiers on the side, lying near a tree, I ran over, screaming for support. I went over, and tried to stop the blood from flowing. He was trembling and started to speak but I could barely hear him. “It waaa-ss an ho-ho-nor to fight by your side” he spit out blood “what ever happened was not your fault, we-e all ch-ch-chose to fight for our country. If I had another chance to live I wouldn’t do it any other way…” I touched his arm trying to get a pulse, but cold as ice. The medics came and took him away. By the end of the day we had a total of 22,717 casualties, 12,401 Union casualties and 10,316 Confederate casualties 753 of my men were missing & captured and 9,540 wounded. We had won the battle but had lost a lot more. We were closer to the end of the war, but further to happiness than ever before. Was this really worth

The blue midnight sky was glistening with infinite stars that lay above my slanted head as I watched the twilight moon above me. Glancing down my hand, catching sight of the time gave me the realization that this was actually happening. Months of preparation, years of mental training and the day had come faster than ever. My mind and heart were trapped in the though and mission of protecting and defending my country, the country that gave me everything and was everything. I was 22, they call me Mailto Sonu with a passion of going into the military as a young child, and the curiosity filled in my head of what it would feel like to stand on the rusty, rough, and coarse sand.…

The sky was engulfed with hopes and prayers of the soldiers that inhabited the wasteland below. Rain fell like pellets soaking everything it could reach. My clothes hung limply off my body, dripping with the water that was flowing from the grey stained sky. The mud that was once hard turned into slush in seconds and splashed everything as I attempted to navigate my way through the trench only using the few metres that I could see in front of me. The sounds of battle cries pierced through the fog, along with the explosions of guns firing bullets…
