I have learned that in tough situations, I am able to succeed rather than sink under pressure. Of course, there have been occasions where when I have been put under stress I have snapped, but even so, I was able to bounce back, and I find ways to overcome my disappointment or discouragement and do what it takes to be successful in my endeavors. One lesson that has taught me to persevere when things become challenging was the portfolio I made for advanced studio art my senior year. I have always enjoyed math and writing, but I found that expressing myself, especially through art, was particularly difficult for me to do. Art does not allow fear of vulnerability nor discomfort, which is why creating a portfolio to express myself then be judged in a show seemed very intimidating at first. I decided to use the medium of linoleum block printing, which often takes many hours of work to do the carving and printing of each color. I was faced with the issue of creating images that expressed my emotions and using time management to create numerous prints in time for the show. My art teacher …show more content…
I have found that the pain, tragedy, passion, and love that the myths contain help me demonstrate the emotions I've dealt with in my own life and express the emotions I’ve faced through the hurdles I have overcome. The portfolio took me over 90 hours and will spread out across the span of five months is currently being sent to the art show. The truth is, whether my portfolio gets accepted into the art show or not, I’ve learned a lot about perseverance and work ethic. I experienced how to overcome my fear of creating images to express myself that others may not value, and how to open up without the apprehension of being judged. All the work I’ve done while creating my portfolio will have made me grow as a person, and learn to bounce back from failures or pressure in a constructive

College is a life changing investment that prepares for life and career. The vast spectrum of knowledge, skills obtained, and experiences from a college degree more than compensates for the monetary cost of tuition. Creating art is my passion; I have always wanted to become a great artist ever since I was a child drawing on my walls and copying pictures from books. I have devoted my life to improving my talents by illustrating my own stories, practicing drawing daily, and challenging myself to earning my own money doing what I love by drawing commissions. Learning how to communicate through illustration is a valuable skill that will live with me for the rest of my life and progressing my artist career.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

I have dabbled with art ever since I was a toddler. I would draw anywhere I went: school, home, and even at church. It started out as a hobby, but soon, I immersed myself into the world of art by integrating art with medicine. I have always found medical dramas to be particularly intriguing. Developing into this interest, I started writing my own medical journal, where I took notes from a book called Gray’s Anatomy and from the medical dramas I watched.…

An abundance of people appreciate the arts, whether it be the performing, visual or theatrical areas, on the other hand, I love them. My passion being the visual arts. Instead of writing and spelling at five years old, I was drawing, painting mixing colors and forming shapes not realizing the capableness of my techniques for such a young aged child. Because drawing was the only thing I fancied, every one figured it was “a phase I was going through and would grow out of it”. It never happened.…

One foot rooted in urban Puerto Rican heritage and the other having been later immersed in the Southern black experience as an adult, I have learned to merge the conceivably disparate cultures of my family. Each afforded me a unique point of view, developing the self-assurance that has empowered me to succeed in the face of adversity. Being of Puerto Rican descent in the inner city kept the lack of financial stability of my youth in view and motivated me to pursue my education. As a black American female I learned the value of diversity, having experienced first-hand the misconceptions that can shape in a homogeneous environment. For instance from being called “too much of a free-spirited city girl,” in the country to later being “too old-fashioned…

I’ve experienced many hardships when dealing with writing assignments, but the worst would have to be my Senior Portfolio. After starting the assignment, I learned very quickly that the assignment was going to be the easy compared to gathering all the information needed about myself. I was required to create multiple different essays that consisted of my post-high school plan and a reflective essay. It seemed easy to write essays on myself, but until I was required to write it all down, I never realized how many experiences contribute into making me who I am today. Even though I find it as the most challenging writing assignment, I also see it as the best learning experience to show who I am and how I plan my future.…

What does theatre mean to me? As I review the questions provided for me to include in my goal statement, I feel lucky to express how theatre is unique to me and how I structure my everyday life around the dramatic arts. Anytime I act, I relish in the opportunity to be a leader, to help people, and to accomplish my actions with confidence. I started off with this philosophy at an early age and have not forgotten about it since. In my opinion, acting is not solely about the individual’s performance, but about how an individual actor can use their confidence and passion to impact other actors, enhance a production, and inspire the audience.…
