Senior Portfolio Reflection

I’ve experienced many hardships when dealing with writing assignments, but the worst would have to be my Senior Portfolio. After starting the assignment, I learned very quickly that the assignment was going to be the easy compared to gathering all the information needed about myself. I was required to create multiple different essays that consisted of my post-high school plan and a reflective essay. It seemed easy to write essays on myself, but until I was required to write it all down, I never realized how many experiences contribute into making me who I am today. Even though I find it as the most challenging writing assignment, I also see it as the best learning experience to show who I am and how I plan my future. After explaining all my past and future, I made it a goal to learn from my past experiences, good and bad, and allow them to shape me into who I want to be based upon my future expectations. …show more content…
Before writing the assignment, I didn’t know which college I wanted to attend or if I even wanted to attend one. I knew that I wanted to pursue drafting into a career in engineering, but I was never sure about how I wanted to go along with doing so. I created a plan/goal to attend college for four years and begin working at the same time so that I could assist my family in paying off college debts and all the while saving for my future. After I had a foundation of how I wanted my future to go, I had the advantage of staying more determined and persistent in completing these goals I set upon myself. When it comes to the essay itself, I managed to complete the writing portion of the assignment with ease after thinking long and hard on what I thought would be the best possible future for

The Assignment that has had the Most Impact on me so Far In my first semester of going back to college, after having been out for over ten years, I took Business English, taught by, May Daniel. This class was a long-distance learning class and started at 4:30 and ended at 5:50 p.m. Mrs. Daniel, told us about our assignments on the first day and one of them was a portfolio project that would be due on the last days of the semester. This assignment included making a resume, a cover letter, a recommendation letter, a cover sheet and a report giving details about the career we are hoping to achieve after graduations and then we had to make it into a PowerPoint presentation to present to the class.…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

This semester I have learned a great deal from Professor Beach, especially in regards to argumentative essays. He has taught how to get the proper evidence, facts, and to stay on point and remain focused. But most importantly he has taught me that argumentative essays must have a valid argument. Before I took Professor Beach’s course, when I saw commercials, advertisements, or the news, I would believe them without doing the proper research. Beach has taught me to see whether or not people are actually telling the truth or using fallacies.…

I’ve decided to write my reflection about Essay 2 “explaining a concept.” This essay was my best work and I felt like I had fun typing this essay. The concept that I wrote about was “Senioritis.” I liked the idea of talking about something that almost everyone in high school could relate to, including me. This essay made me think about more than just the topic, it made me think about my opinions.…

Narrative Essay It was at the beginning of my senior year when my counselor started urging my senior class to start thinking about what universities we wanted to apply to. At the time, I did not know which universities I wanted to apply to or what were the differences between a Cal State, a UC, and a Private University. I did not even know about financial aid. I just knew that I wanted to be the first in my family to attend a University and get a degree.…

It was very difficult to decide where each piece should be placed. However, I felt that by using this rationale, I could better express what I feel I have learned this semester and how I have grown as a student and spiritual person. My History As A Writer Throughout my lifetime I have come to love and absolutely hate writing. The reasoning of the assignment or topic has a lot to do with my affinity and disgust. Although learning new things, like writing, was something that I loved doing in elementary school, that all changed when it was daily implemented. As an art form I recently come to love writing down my thoughts, ideas, opinions and stories.…

I’ve chosen to focus on “Exploration and Argumentation” as the subject of this reflective introduction, specifically looking at my argument paper, “Abortion: Right or Wrong?” as a reference to the importance of this learning outcome. I chose to focus on this particular learning outcome because it was the most difficult essay for me to create. While writing this essay it was difficult for me to understand and reciprocate the opposing viewpoint. Understanding an unfamiliar idea and giving ideas for or against a topic is key to creating a fluent argumentative essay.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a handful of things about myself as a writer, that will help me develop as a more proficient writer over the course of my four years here. As a writer one of my strengths is backing up my argument with solid and concrete evidence that truly makes the reader believe what they are reading. Another area of my writing that I excel in is being able to process great ideas that follow the guidelines and the prompt. With that being said I have also seen that while the ideas may come with ease, I do have a challenging time with getting the ideas from my head onto paper in a manner that isn’t so disorganized that it makes the reader second guess themselves. Another shaky part of my writing comes much before the actual forming of sentences.…
