Personal Narrative: Juvenile Justice System

I have not, Eric. Are we still have any issues, and unable to resolve? If not, I really don't want go through any petitioning process, unless we really have to. If anything, it won't have impact anything for our current class. If it is for future improvement, we have the opportunity to rate the professor and express our experience/issues during the end of class survey.
Personally, I just want be done with class & the program if possible. I have family medical & schedule issues that I am barely surviving to meet the requirements for the class. I really don't have the time or energy to deal with anything more if the administration requests farther follow up. I am not discouraging anyone by any means, I am just being honest with my current situation

I was so shocked as I was taken to be put in the back of the police car to be driven to a local jail by the police after the party. I started trembling on the way unable to process what had happened. Previously I only had spent a few minutes at the party and didn’t realize my friends wanted me to go a party with drugs and alcohol. Upon arrival at the prison there were tall electric fence that surrounded the premises. On the top of the fence I was able to see the vividly sharp barbed wire at the top that was there as extra protection to make sure no one could escape.…

Intro: There is much criticism, as well as negative connotations, that currently exist within our society in regards to the juvenile justice system (Pierpoint, 2000; White, 2002), and most critics’ opinions have originated from the plethora of different individuals and agencies whom become involved in a delinquent’s life at any given time once they enter into the juvenile system (Pierpoint, 2000; White, 2002). As many scholars have discovered over the course of their research, biological parents have a highly pronounced role in their child’s development starting from their birth and throughout the course of their lifetime (Baer & Maschi, 2003; Church II, MacNeil, Martin, & Nelson-Gardell, 2009; Fletcher, Steinberg, & Williams-Wheeler, 2004;…

A big issue for me was the fact that, even though Julie was abused by her father, there had to be a way to play the side of Julie that it’s hurt and not angry. My first instinct was to play fear. I thought that Julie kept this fear for her father over the years. When I found out that Julie more than scare was hurt finally could have an overall vision of what my main purpose was. She is there at the hospital because she needs to face her father before he passes away, she knows that this is her last chance to close that door and start a new page, even though she will not admit it Child abuse is a big deal no matter what it is wrong and there are no excuses for this, nevertheless a big deal for me was to find the way of showing that hurt adult that Julie is.…

My recommendations to legislators would be as follow: 1.Abolish the juvenile courts. There is no need to have a separate court system for adults and juveniles because juvenile’s crime rates are expanding. Juveniles are committing serious crimes such as murder and rape. Juvenile need to face their punishment. 2.Continue the terminology for juveniles.…

This is a true story about the time I got in trouble for doing something that would have marked my record with a felony and got me put in a juvenile detention center for 3-6 months. I'm in a room with my mom, sister, and a officer who is telling me what I did and the consequences for my actions. I'm sitting there taking it all in and making sure I show him how regretful I am for doing what I did. When I sat down with my mom and sister the officer asked me what happened so i told him and he explained what could happen to me. At the moment he was explaining my situation I was nervous and scared even though i was going to accept the consequences of my actions.…

The trend began in the 1990s, when virtually every state expanded the rules under which juvenile offenders could be charged as adults. "The juvenile justice system has been 'reinvented' in the image of the adult criminal justice system," Robert Schwartz, co-founder of the Juvenile Law Center, and Thomas Grisso, a clinical psychologist at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, wrote in an executive summary for their book, "Youth on Trial." "In the words of one 'get-tough' advocate, juvenile offenders 'are criminals who happen to be young, not children who happen to be criminal." In May, the Supreme Court handed down a decision that will soften sentences against some juveniles.…

Waiving Juveniles to Adult Courts Waiver of juveniles to adult courts is a process used by prosecutors for youths that would benefit from the punishments received in adult correction systems. This mainly indicates incarceration in adult prisons. This process has become more common in today’s society due to the increase in juvenile violent crime rates. It has taken the courts decades to establish the criminal justice system and many believe in the reasons for the separation of juvenile and criminal courts.…

Educational Injustice Education is invaluable to all the young people in the United States, but it is a necessity for most youth in the juvenile justice system. Research shows education offered in juvenile correctional facilities must be the same quality of learning opportunities that non-offending youth receive. “Today any juvenile justice system that does not place education for young people as the essential, central element of rehabilitation and prevention has failed” (Suitts, Dunn, & Sabree, 2012, p. 4). Most juvenile offenders are considerably behind in school, often diagnosed with learning disabilities or delays, and routinely have multiple emotional, psychological, and physical problems (Suitts, Dunn, & Sabree, 2012). Across the…

Analysis of the Juvenile Justice System and Dipartites amongst Minorities The United States incarcerates more youths than any other development country; approximately 2 million juveniles are arrested annually in the United States (Barnet et al. 2014). Although juveniles are protected against cruel and unusual punishment by the Eighth Amendment, many states in the U.S. are creating and implementing new laws designed to be more stringent with the juveniles. These new laws range anywhere from setting curfews to trying a minor as an adult. Studies show that not only has there has also been an increase in the number of minority juveniles being arrested, but minority youths are more likely to receive harsher punishments as well (Mears, Pickett, & Mancini, 2015). Specifically, African American youths are roughly 5 times more likely, and Latino and American Indian adolescents are 3 times more likely, to be incarcerated than white minors (Barnet et al, 2014).…
