In “Overcoming Abuse - My Story”, Shawna Platt talks about her own experience with abuse and how she was able to survive and eventually overcome it. Platt grew up with abusive parents, in an environment of alcoholism which was filled with physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, anxiety, and denial. Platt believes that forgiveness is important in order to stop the cycle of abuse so it doesn 't get passed on to the next generation. Platt’s usage of pathos, tone, and detailed descriptions of abuse in the essay accomplishes her efforts to inform the reader that forgiving others is the key to overcoming abuse and moving on in life.…

A big issue for me was the fact that, even though Julie was abused by her father, there had to be a way to play the side of Julie that it’s hurt and not angry. My first instinct was to play fear. I thought that Julie kept this fear for her father over the years. When I found out that Julie more than scare was hurt finally could have an overall vision of what my main purpose was. She is there at the hospital because she needs to face her father before he passes away, she knows that this is her last chance to close that door and start a new page, even though she will not admit it Child abuse is a big deal no matter what it is wrong and there are no excuses for this, nevertheless a big deal for me was to find the way of showing that hurt adult that Julie is.…

I have acquired an interest in criminal justice for some time now. I have recently gone through some experiences that have opened my eyes to the many hypocrisies that are ingrained into the criminal justice system. As a child and up until now, I have always thought that the courts were just and law enforcement officers stood for something more, that is not the case to me. I see a lot of corruption and a lot of nonsense, Especially towards minorities.…

I have had many experiences with the criminal justice system being married to a police officer for 15 years, but I have had two personal encounters. One was when I was a juvenile being at wrong place at the wrong time and my second one five years ago. My first experience wasn’t so bad, but the second encounter was clearly my fault and it was awful. I had just taken a job with State Farm and leaving my position at Free Star Bank. My manager at the time was happy and sad.…

Two problems that are extremely important to me are the issues of child abuse and professional inequality for minorities. Though they are classified as completely separate, complex topics, I strongly believe each problem needs to be solved. I am blessed to have grown up in a stable household where I was always surrounded by love and support. When I was little, I thought that this was normal. As I grew up and began volunteering with a local non-profit, Sharing and Caring, I was exposed to extremely different family situations.…

Watching “Sold” was very eye opening. Not only did it hit a deep spot in my heart, but it also made me more aware of sex trafficking. I knew sex trafficking was a thing, I just didn't know it was this big of a thing. Seeing a family sell their child for money shouldn't be a thing. No one should have to go through that, no matter how poor or desperate they are.…

The retrospective approach associated with narrative criminology and the narrative framework is limited in the testing of narrative roles. Narrative roles are identified through the exploration of offenders' stories for crimes for which offenders have previously been convicted. A major criticism of narrative criminology is offenders may change their stories after the fact bringing into question the validity of the narrative account. However, Ioannou et al. (2015) explained narrative reports are taken at face value understanding the statements may contain subjective information and perceptual anomalies.…
