Personal Narrative: Cross County

From my last 3 years of running cross county I have learned a lot of things. One is that you should never give up, second is that if you work hard enough then you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and third is how you can go from disliking something to loving something. How I've learned these things from cross county is when I first started cross country, my sophomore year I couldn't run to save my life. Coach would always time us on how fast we could run two miles and I would always be last and be so far behind everyone else which was quite embarrassing but I couldn't help it I had just started and I'd never ran before in my life, at my very first meet I couldn't even run the first mile and I ended up having to drop out. After that I didn't like cross county at all because I wasn't good at it and I started to not care and I would walk at practice and only run somewhat. …show more content…
I went from running a 30 minute three mile to running a 25:26 three mile and that year I got most improved. The start to my junior year of cross county wasn't all that good I hadn't ran all summer and I felt like I was back to when I first started and I was in a way it took me a while to get back into the swing of things. That year I didn't set an overall personal record on any trail which was a huge let down, but there were a few times I set a PR on the trail compared to my sophomore year times, I also got most improved that year also. The start of my senior year started off with a

Nolan county is a great place to grow up and live in. I happen to reside in Roscoe and go to school there. I moved to Roscoe when I was going into the fourth grade, and I am glad I did. Where I moved here from is a place that I am glad I got out of, I would’ve most likely be getting in all kinds of trouble there. Nolan county saved me from all that trouble.…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

He knew how upset I was about the previous day’s results, but he as well would not accept my thoughts of resignation from the team. After many words of encouragement he added, “No matter how fast you run, it’s going to hurt, so tune out the pain. Prove that you can do it, that you’re not scared.” All of a sudden, a fire inside of me wanted to do better, needed to do better, so I listened to his words. I decided to set a goals for myself.…

    Running Metaphor

As I am learning to master the art of running I realize that it takes a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication, more than I realized. You have to change your lifestyle, from what you eat and drink to the amount of exercise and training you put in on a daily basis, to the amount of sleep you get and also having the mindset and discipline of a runner. One of the hardest things about being a long distance runner is the realization that you are racing yourself and your watch; trying to beat your previous best time. Just as Oprah Winfrey says “Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out what you put into it.” Life can be hard and seem unfair at times, such as when you are running and you beat your own record time, but…

Bang, the gun sounds. I sprint out of my box, following teammates in pursuit of the leader. The pack of cross country runners appears to envelop me from my parent’s sight. I hurdle toward the first flag, passing competitors right and left. All the rest is a blur, just the pounding of my heart and the thumping of feet as I run, breathing heavier and heavier, twisting and turning through the trails to reach the chute.…

Going to State for cross country is one of my favorite things that I have done in my athletic high school career. It took hard work to get there and when we finally did that it was eventful and fun and was one of the best trips that I have ever had. It started out way back in June when a group of girls got together and went for a run. At that time we only ran about 3-4 miles or so, but by the middle of the cross country season we were running up to 6 miles everyday. We trained all throughout the summer increasing our mileage every week so that by the beginning of the season were were ready to race.…

I was not surprised—I knew the basic principles of exercise—but my knowledge had not prevented me from feeling like I was barely improving during those practices. The season finally began that fall, and I was disappointed to hear that I had not been chosen as a starter for the team. All hope was not lost, however, because the coach told the backup players that if we improved, we could be made starters. The season went on and I kept improving and finally, we made it to the state championships. After substituting in the end of the semi-finals, my coach pulled me aside and told me that I would be starting as middle linebacker for the final championship game.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…
