I was never a sporty kid. For the majority of my childhood, my hobbies have included reading, playing video games, and other generic nerd activities. I worried about it for the weeks leading up to the first practice, but eventually I decided “Why not? It may end up being fun.” Soon enough, the first practice arrived on a scorching Florida summer’s day. If I had to describe that practice in one words, it would be “painful.” Football practice was much more rigorous than anything I was used to, making practicing very difficult, but despite the …show more content…
I was not surprised—I knew the basic principles of exercise—but my knowledge had not prevented me from feeling like I was barely improving during those practices. The season finally began that fall, and I was disappointed to hear that I had not been chosen as a starter for the team. All hope was not lost, however, because the coach told the backup players that if we improved, we could be made starters. The season went on and I kept improving and finally, we made it to the state championships. After substituting in the end of the semi-finals, my coach pulled me aside and told me that I would be starting as middle linebacker for the final championship game. I had done it! We went on to win the state championship, going undefeated for the whole season. All of my determination to reach my goal had paid off at the very last moment. My transformation was complete – I went from being just a nerd to being a sort of nerd-jock, a “nock,” and I could not be any

Baseball has and always will be a part of my life. Just like other activities, some seasons have been spectacular and others have been just average. But I have always had this certain drive in me to go through struggles and eventually come out on top among other competitors. I had just entered my junior year in high school and was back to playing football, my grades were good so far and my A.D.D. medication was helping me a lot. Zach and I had just arrived at the union school for a junior varsity game against Oceanside high school, we geared up and got ready for the game. I started the game at quarterback and the game wasn't going well for us, which didn't come as a surprise because jv games are never enjoyable. I took the snap and rolled out to the left side of the field, no one was open so I tucked the ball under my arm and started to run up field, I had room to move, suddenly a linebacker running at me from my side started to shorten up his steps and set himself for a tackle, he tackled low but I…

In sixth grade, I wanted nothing more than to make Lusher’s middle school flag football team. I had dreamed of being on the team from the very first day I heard about it; all of my friends were trying out with me; and we had grand plans for a year of non-contact, semi-athletic exertion ahead of us. Having been anxiously awaiting the lunch period when the team roster would be revealed, I was thusly dismayed, disappointed, and disheartened when my name was not one of the eighteen posted on the PE office door. My mother, in all her eternal wisdom, saw a way out of the pit of despair I had sunk into: Lusher was starting an Academic Games team, and she thought I might enjoy playing. I was more than somewhat hesitant; she was more than somewhat…

I’m going to write about my first half of my freshman year of high school football. I was really good in 7th and 8th grade and I tried to push myself really hard to be as good as a high school varsity player and get a starting position. But I wasn’t good enough. I broke my ankle my last second from last game in 8th grade running the ball and got tackled and fell hard on it breaking my tibia and fracturing my fibula and tearing all the ligaments in between. I had surgery on it.…

I can still remember my freshman football season like it was yesterday. Speaking in terms of wins and losses, it was a very poor season; however, it made me fall in love with the game of American football and gave me a hard working mentality that will help me the rest of my life. Unfortunately, I was not as enthusiastic about playing before the season-I was not only unsure of how much I enjoyed the sport, but I was also afraid of hazing the upperclassmen might make me go through. I have always kept up with the news, whether it be checking the CNN app on my phone or watching the local and world news in the evening. I can remember one news story I read about some college kids that were severely punished for hazing a freshman marching band member,…

For three months in the spring, my life revolves around one thing, lacrosse. I spent the cold morning before class and the hot afternoons after, on the field, I always met the expectations for someone on the team. I ran until I could no longer run, I played in the drills, and I showed up to every game. However, I never played in the games, and that was because I only ever reached the expectations, never raising them. I remember at the end of my freshman year, my coach sat me and a group similar in my abilities down during the last practice.…
