The first time I had a phone I was in elementary school, and had it for about 2 years. Then as life moved on, and events took place, I was not allowed to have one, and did not have one for almost two years. When I was in fourth or fifth grade I was allowed to have another one and kept it until the sixth grade. My dog had torn it apart, and because of financial reasons, there was only one phone in the house, between three people, and it was a old slide up phone. Not a touch screen and it could not do anything but text and call. It had been like that for six years. This Christmas, my sister got her first phone, my mother got her first advanced phone, and I got a phone as well. And I am still teaching both my mother and sister how to use them. …show more content…
The only time my mother uses it is when she has a text or call. I only use it for the same reason, but my sister is starting to get distracted by it constantly. I think that the reason why, though, is because she never had one, and had always seen her friends and everyone else have one, so I am hoping that the shiny new toy effect will wear off with time. But after reading that article i'm not so sure that will happen. Also, I have realized that the more people text, the less people are willing to actually speak. Including my sister and I. When my mother asks one of us to call a business, or make an appointment, or orderout, I am hesitant, and my sister flat out refuses. Which are really bad traits to obtain, because when I first started to make appointments for myself it felt awkward and I was unsure how to act or respond, but the more calls that I place the more professional I sound. Sadly this is true for most teenagers, and something that we need to overcome, because our future will not allow this …show more content…
I do keep it in my pocket, only because if it goes into my bag there is a high chance that it will break. Two of my teachers have either a box or a hanging pocket rack, for the students to put their phones so that there is no distraction. Dr. Laws has a box next to the calculators, so that when you go to get your calculator, you put your phone in the box, and when class is over and you are putting your calculator up, you grab your phone on the way out of class. Mrs. Hartsell has a phone-pocket rack next to the door; come in, and put your phone in the pocket; walking out, and grab your phone on the way. No distractions. Then Mr. Ray has a basket, but he gives us a option, except for test days. But if you are caught messing with your phone in class or if it goes off, then he will take it. The decision about the phone will be between you and Mr. Ray, so that is a gambling game. While i'm in school though, I have no reason to use my phone unless it is to get into contact with my mother or sister, and that is only if it is an emergency, or lately, for an example; to check up on one of my cats who have recently had

In “Save the Earth, Buy Less,” Jared Blumenfeld points out, “Americans have become deeply addicted to consuming. If it’s cool, if it’s trendy, if it’s shiny, we buy it” (par. 6). In today’s brand conscious world, everyone likes to buy new things in order to look modern and more fashioned. In my opinion, this concept is destroying society by increasing: personal debt, poverty, and unemployment. Furthermore, this concept is also time wasting because everyday people go to the stores and they spend hours in there, just searching the products that are on clearance, which they don’t even need.…

A reason why cell phones should be taken during school hours is, because they are a distraction. Many students come to school, and come to get on there phone and socialize instead of actually learning. According to Becky Dieffenbach’s in her opinion, students bringing their own devices “just becomes a source of distraction for some students, because no matter how many times you repeat the rule that they can only be on technology when the teacher says it’s ok,…

Disconnected In the reading Growing Up Tethered by Sherry Turkle she describes her experience of talking to high school students about being more connected to a cellphone than the world around them. I completely agree cellphones and other devices that keep us connected via web, text or call causes us to lose necessary physical interactions with other people. So much attention can be drawn from cellphones without having to leave the house, some people have friends all over the country that they may have never met. Cellphones give a sense of popularity being able to talk to people and express feelings without being face to face gives some people more confidence.…

A few of the goals I needed to do was that I needed to do booktracks to make a beginning, middle and end, and I also had to type it on google drive and before this happened I had to figure out what lead I should use. By being a critical thinker, when I was in the library, I had to look at all kinds of leads that would help me in the narrative that I presented in the front of the class. In elementary school, one of my teachers was especially infamous for humiliating students. I remember him loudly shaming one of my classmates, scoffing at the work turned in. Another moment that stuck with me was when I had stayed in during tutorial for help with math concepts, and he became increasingly angry when I made a mistake on the problems. I ended up developing a deep-seated fear of rejection. I generally avoided talking to my teachers for help from then on, hoping that the lack of interaction meant they would not give me grief over the mistakes I would make.…

A week into Fall, and the temperature was still lulling at 90 degrees, like the mosquitos that swayed comfortably above the bayou that ran for miles outside my English II class. The bayou would eventually diverge by my neighborhood. In class, the philosophical discussion on the Power of One by Bryce Courtenay also diverged. If Peekay could reach compos mentis (full command of one’s mind) after years of training, epitomized by a drunken bar fight, when would we ambitious students scrawled across plastic chairs and creaking wooden tables, reach compos mentis? Was it in adulthood, after college, or after the birth of our first child?…

However, there was a wall standing between me and the other kids that made this impossible: language. As a first generation American, I wasn’t supplemented with all the strengths common Americans are given, but I’ve learned to grow from these great differences. Throughout my childhood, I’ve faced numerous obstacles that have shaped the person I am today. My parents who were born and raised in India, taught me how to speak Punjabi growing up.…

I am looking to purchase a used 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, the car’s price will most likely drop after another six years. Reasons for waiting until after college are, price drops, having a higher paying job, and also having a higher credit score. First of all, the Mustang’s starting price was $60,445 which means the car has depreciated $11,000 in about three years.…
