Every year when spring cleaning rolls around, I always rummage through my closet to organize the years worth of junk I’ve hoarded. In my closet sits my pink, bedazzled Motorola Razr that I treasured in middle school. Though my minutes were limited and I could only play a demo of bejeweled for free, my first phone had a special place in my heart. It was only ever what it was meant to be; a back up, only to be used in emergency situations. As I put away my first phone, I walk out of my room, instinctively grabbing my iPhone that is always by my side. With each new version of a device that comes out, our reliance on our technology grows stronger. Whether it’s the Apple Watch that sits on our wrists as essentially a second phone, to the iPad I used to pay for lunch today, technology has taken the position in our lives as our sidekick, implementing itself to assist in many aspects of our lives. Most positively, the internet and technology will improve education by proving to be more efficient for teachers, while also accommodating those who struggle in traditional educational settings. Technology will continue to assist people in their education, professional goals, and personal lives. Not only will technology further assist individuals, but it will also serve as a strong connection between communities. It amazes me how well I’ve gotten to know my relative overseas through our technology, and am excited to see how our bonds can be strengthened with the technological advances that are bound to occur in the next decades. The internet has also shown its usefulness in creating new bonds, showcasing people’s humanity through their unity. By the next decade, I see the internet being faster and smarter, while technology continues to serve as a vital helping
