I have been through so many experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today. However, there is one experience in particular that moved me in ways I can hardly put into words. My freshman year of high school, I was given the opportunity to join the Klondike FFA Milk Quality Career Development Event team. Studying and competing in this event led me to develop a fighting hunger for winning. Halfway through my first year, I realized that I did not like to lose. This led me to studying constantly every night, and, in addition, thinking of every memorization technique that I could. Little did I know at the time, three years later this event would put me on the biggest stage of my life and would become one of my most impactful experiences. …show more content…
As this was my first year in the contest, I was very upset. Winning state was our goal, but this opened my eyes to see that everyone goes through defeat. I had never been part of something that meant so much to me, and then experience its end all too quickly. I was determined that the next year would be our time to shine. Jumping into my sophomore year, we prepared heavily for this contest for which I had become so passionate. Being a part of this team truly made me become the most competitive version of myself. After many weeks of dedication, the state contest held at Tarleton State University was upon us. I was very confident in my ability to determine different kinds of milks, as well as cheeses, but the thought of winning state was

“Oh, Jesus”! I shrieked out as the knife slid through my skin as I endlessly hacked away at the gobs of raw chicken breast I was preparing for tomorrow morning. My face began to pale and every part of my body seemed to go numb, except my mind. Working overtime, my body trailed off into thought, deeming the injury at hand trivial and obsolete. I put the summer before my junior year of high school into perspective.…

There was this competitive scholarship that my school offered to the top three best essay writers. To qualify, you had to be accepted into a four year college, your GPA had to be higher than a 3.6, and you had to be a minority. I had to do my best because there were a lot of great writers that were competing. The essay prompt was “What would it mean to you to be awarded a NaphCare Foundation Scholarship?” I thought about things in my life that means a lot to me, so I began to write about how this scholarship will help benefit me and how much it would mean to be awarded it.…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

We played our hearts out and won every game in the tournament we were named the “KSA Champions”. The accomplishment increased our team’s national ranking, we were now in the top 20 teams in the nation and the number one team in Georgia; the ranking we were now held was the highest in history at my school. It meant a lot to my coaches and teammates, due to the fact we were the only African American team in the tournament. The funny looks that we received and the lack of foul…

We were all glad to have placed well, but were overall disappointed in losing first place by one measly point. Setting the mood for remembering our countless failures and long practices, the seniors went around the group, giving each member of the team their own little speech. When they got to me, every single senior noted how much I had changed over the season. Listening to them recount the season to me, it truly hit me how different I was compared to the beginning of the season. Senior speeches had opened a book of memories for me.…

Watching our car roll backwards toward the start taught us both that nothing ever goes perfectly. Being able to walk out of the event area with smiles plastered on our faces was our biggest accomplishment. The car might not have worked, but we knew that most of the other teams had adults build their cars for them. Knowing that we worked so hard for so long was our reassurance. Things might…

My ability to write and understand myself as a writer has changed because of the many subjects that were talked about in class. Such as, grammar to ensure that sentences are effective and using grammatical structures in your essay. Make sure to have paragraphs relate to your thesis statement. Have good punctuation in your essay like commas, exclamation points, and periods at the end of each sentence. I didn’t pass this class the very first time I took it, so I hope maybe this time around, it was worth it to learn from my past mistakes.…

The failures we face in life give us the determination and motivation to succeed. About a year ago at The Faceoff Academy National Showcase I realized how much harder I needed to work if I wanted to play college lacrosse. There were a lot of talented kids that were already committed to colleges. I wanted to be like them. When I lost in the tournament it changed my mindset on being a student athlete.…

In elementary school, one of my teachers was especially infamous for humiliating students. I remember him loudly shaming one of my classmates, scoffing at the work turned in. Another moment that stuck with me was when I had stayed in during tutorial for help with math concepts, and he became increasingly angry when I made a mistake on the problems. I ended up developing a deep-seated fear of rejection. I generally avoided talking to my teachers for help from then on, hoping that the lack of interaction meant they would not give me grief over the mistakes I would make.…

“Spaghetti and hydrogen, what do they have in common?” I always remembered the question my physics teacher raised in first physics class in eighth grade. “From the leaves on the trees to the school bus that drives you here”, he continued, “for every matter in the world, there exist certain underlying rules that shape it into what it is, determine how it functions, and thus make it predictable and understandable.” Identifying his conclusion shapes me into a discerning observer. Ever since, I was spurred by an irresistible desire to find out the “underlying rules” that dominate the kaleidoscopic world.…

I have had numerous angry spouts with my mother, over countless years. It has gotten to the point that it no longer feels like she’s close to me. Since I do care about my mom I decided to do my paper on her. Since my mom has a short temper it was rather difficult to prepare my approach because if I fail it will be a multi hour argument that accomplishes nothing but makes both parties very angry at each other. After many fails and many arguments, I found that it went well all the way up to when I get to the part where I make a request or requests.…
