Technology is growing, and so is the amount of time people spend connected to their technological devices. Anywhere you look, you see something with technology connected to it. It is a lot more prominent in schools, work and personal life. Looking around when you are in public all you see are people of various ages on their phones texting, scrolling through social media, or watching videos. Throughout this essay, I am going to touch on some of the points that are related to the increase in technology in the lives of people from every age. There are very few people in this world who have absolutely no access to technology especially within The United States of America (USA). About ten to twenty years ago, technology like cell phones were common but lower tech. Very few had smart phones with access to the internet and if they did have access to the internet, then most would not connect because it cost to much money to do so. Then compared to now is so different because now there are so many people with smart phones. If you have a cell phone, a majority of the time it is a phone with unlimited or a very high amount of data usage so you can be on the internet without connecting to the wireless internet (WIFI). This increase in accessibility and options on the actual phone, has increased the time people spend on the phones. It has become another appendage for many who can not leave the house without their cellphone. They are constantly connected the the world through either a cellphone, tablet or computer. They often are playing games, on social media, or are watching videos on video websites like youtube.com. The increase in social media usage and being able to see how other people live their lives, has had a huge impact on the way young children see themselves. With the increase in ability to follow how celebrities look and act, there has also been more issues with self esteem and body image. Society has created these standards that adolescents are looking at, and making them feel bad about themselves. Technology has had a huge influence on how adolescents learn the standards, and how they react to everyday
