Personal Narrative: A Kid And Their Games

A Kid and Their Games As I sit in the rocking chair on my front porch, staring up the hill at my brothers humble abode. My brother and his wife are out at the barn, they are riding the horses and getting them exercised for their training. Oh, that’s right, his iPad has taken over him.
He does not like to go outside, go to the store, or even play in the dirt. As long as he has his iPad, television, or his Nintendo DSi then he is fine wherever he is. Luke is only eight years old and is overly obsessed with electronics. He has grown to know so much about them that it is almost scary. If my phone, iPad, or laptop is messed up, all I have to do is call him. Most of the time Luke can tell me exactly what is wrong with it and how to fix it. Sadly,

If you’re sitting in the living room with your family having a conversation and someone is sitting there on their phone it is disrespectful. So, why teach your children to do it so young?
When my nephew has friends over, and they ask him what they’re going to do he always tells them they can either watch the television, or play games on the iPad. His friends, most of the time are okay with that for a little bit but then they are ready to go outside and play for a while. Luke refuses to go most of the time. It is sad to see how over time the world has warped the minds of the last

Because of this he doesn’t have the luxury of normal teenagers. The authors of the novels used how the protagonists live to show just because something is “normal” to one person it isn’t “normal” to to other people. Some similarities between Luke and Alex are both of them living differently than most people Luke is forced to live in secret, and Alex is forced to keep major secrets from everyone, compared to what they think as “normal” is considered as “abnormal by most for example Luke finds it normal to stay inside and away from people outside of his direct family and Alex is a spy and does things like save the world on a normal basis, and because of this they are seen as “abnormal”. After reading both Kelle Lasn’s and Richard Louv’s pieces on how humans have become distant from nature, I became very upset with myself. When I was younger I loved spending time outside. Whether I was playing sports with the neighborhood kids, helping my grandfather with his garden or talking walks in the park near my house, I realized that I do not spend nearly as much time outside as I used to. With technology constantly being invented and reinvented, video games, television shows and phones are just a few of the technological things that steal most of the joy that nature used to bring to people. As a kid, I begged to spend more time outside even though it was dinner time or the sun had set hours before.…

After reviewing the topic about a child’s brain and how it is the most complex thing on earth. One thing immediately came to mind: Languages. I have been fascinated with how newborns and small children learn languages, and how they can master them just by listening and hearing. I have taught English as a second language for many years, and worked with children who speak multiple languages without diligence. At one point, I was so impressed seeing these children speak them fluently, but then I realized; I went through exactly the same thing.…
