When our Natalie was born, almost 4 years ago, I was working full-time and enjoyed working, but before she was even here, I knew that I wanted to spend more time with her. I was able to get my employer to agree to my working only 4 days a week (Fridays off) so that I could spend the other 3 days with my daughter.
The discussion husband and I had regarding childcare revealed that we would both be more comfortable if she were cared for by family. Plus, we wouldn’t be able to afford a full-time daycare.
My hubby was already off one day a week and had enough work flexibility to swap his weekend day for another weekday when needed –TWO DAYS COVERED. My mother-in-law was involved from the very beginning and offered to help with the baby free-of-charge as her work schedule permitted. Her scheduling varied, but she knew it for the whole year –ANOTHER 1 or 2 DAYS COVERED. Just the two of them wouldn’t be enough so I contacted my sister and she was willing to assist, as needed, on a paid basis –ALTERNATE #1. Plus, I signed up with a drop-in daycare facility as a second backup –ALTERNATE #2.

In the following paper I will be discussing if the “Mommy Track” (part-time work) does or doesn’t benefits women’s lives, as it is said to be. The porpoise of the “Mommy Track” is to allow women to maintain healthy balance between the professional work force and the family career. By allowing women who have recently had or adopted a child the opportunity to return to work or simply work part-time. One point of view, suggest that the “Mammy Track” benefits professional working mothers by making it easier to amalgamate their career and family.
