After I graduate I want to work with foster kids; help them connect with their own parents, find them a perfect match foster parents, make their transitions easy for them, make them happy and comfortable in any way I can. Therefore, I chose to visit a child welfare office. I googled it and found out the closest one is in Escondido. I drove there and it took me about 20 minutes to get there and another 20 minutes to find the office after I parked my car. The sign was there for the child welfare office but it was nowhere to be found. So I walked around the building and walked into another office called CalWORKs and asked the front office lady about it. She told me it was moved and gave me the directions. At the and I said thank you but wanted to know what CalWORKs is and asked her. She did not tell me what it is instead told me this not what I was looking for. I understood her because she seemed busy and exhausted working there so I got some pamphlets to read later on to learn what it was and left the office.
CalWORKs stands for California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids which I have never heard before. “CalWORKs is a welfare program that gives cash aid and services to eligible needy California families. The program serves all 58 counties in the state and is operated locally by county welfare departments. If a family has little or no cash and needs housing, food, utilities, clothing or medical care, they may be eligible to receive immediate short-term help.…
