No child should be abused, but many children are physically, emotionally, and sexually abused while in foster care. Kathy Barbell, an author of Foster Care Today explains that the percentage of reports on child abuse has increased over time. “...Of the substantiated reports (868,000), the majority (58%) involved neglect, 21% involved physical abuse, and 11% involved sexual abuse” (Barbell). As seen this is important to note because foster care is supposed to provide safety and security to children although there are too many children abused by their foster care parents. However, foster care in this matter is not beneficial because children are not being treated fairly. No child should be abused but it is worse for these foster children because they are coming from an unstable place before being settled into foster care.
