In today’s organizations, employee performance is vital to organizational performance and profitability (Sung & Choi, 2014). Moreover, investment in human capital through professional development programs is necessary for employee performance to remain high (Sung & Choi, 2014). The director of professional development within an established phone center has been given a directive to determine whether one of four types of professional development program is the most effective in improving employee performance. Given this charge, the director has developed a research study to determine which program is the most effective.
Using a quantitative research approach, the director chooses to conduct a quasi-experimental, untreated control group design with dependent pretest and posttest samples (Shadish, Cook, & Campbell, 2002). Due to there being more than two groups, this study will integrate a multiple group design (Salkind, 2006). The director selected this research design because it is the best design approach to examine the four professional development programs and to determine which program is the most effective in improving employee performance.
Statement of the Problem
The phone center in recent months has experienced challenges with employee performance. This reduction in employee performance has affected the organization’s overall performance and productivity.
