All of the chapters that we have discussed in class are extremely useful in your everyday life, work environment, and your social life. In my opinion I feel that the most useful chapter to me is chapter 2, perception, self, and communication. I feel that this is the most useful chapter for several reasons. The first reason is the you need to know your perception so you can relay your message to your audience successfully especially in a work environment. Secondly, you will want to know your self such as, your weaknesses and strengths to carry a good and productive conversation. Lastly, you will need to know some some mistakes that you make when you are carrying a conversation out with someone. I think this chapter will be the most useful for …show more content…
A very important thing to consider what having conversation is active perception, which allows you to be your own person and pick up on different surrounding sounds, smells, and feelings. This will also help you remember important points in the conversation that may be useful in the future. Since every human is different this causes difference in perception such as weight, gender, body type, race, height, and senses. Another difference in perception is your past experiences with other people. You may have a bad experience with a person of a certain race, so then from that day forward you may have a bad feeling when you have a conversation with another person of that race. You may also be having a really good or horrible day which could significantly affect how you talk or respond to another person. Having all these different perceptions when hold a conversation is very crucial when you are being interviewed. You will want to have an open mind and be able to respond to questions with confidence. I think once you are aware of all your surroundings and you know how to be open minded when being interviewed, you will be able to get the job …show more content…
Knowing the mistakes will help you change. When you first meet someone you instantly start thinking certain things about this person it may be from the clothes they are wearing or their dialect. If you see someone wearing a cowboy hat and saying “y 'all” you may think they are from the south. Sometimes first impressions are not a bad thing and helps you figure a person out of even start a conversation. But along with having a past you may have had a bad encounter with a man from Texas who said “y 'all” and wore a cowboy hat, so now every time you see someone like that you avoid them. Along with first impressions you may stereotype someone. When you see someone and you instantly think something bad or incorrect about this person you are stereotyping them. Having false first impression and stereotyping are definitely hurdles in the employment process. You need an open mind and a good attitude towards others to be a successful person in the work

Introduction I originally was going to interview a girl from Singapore for this paper, but I had to go back home and I was not able to talk with her after all. So while I was back in my home town I interviewed a girl I went to school with, and for the sake of the paper I am going to refer to her as Sally. Before interviewing Sally I knew how our physical appearances differed, but I didn’t realize how culturally different we were. Understanding Others Sally is different from me in number of ways, but some of our differences are she is a mother, she refers to herself as a Christian, she still lives in the town she grew up in, and she has a job.…

Being a child of divorced parents I would have to agree with the statement of communication being the main reason for the decline of the family unit in the United States. I was eight when my father and mother divorced, as I remember it was a long and bitter process. At the time I was too young to understand the causes of why this was happening, but many years later, after my parents became friends and I entered my adult years both my parents talked to me openly about the reasons for the divorce. Of course, there was more than one reason for the divorce, but the one thing I always remembered both my parents telling me was they stopped talking for the final few years, and neither was listening, the end result was the divorce. The irony of it…

Interviews can become uncomfortable if the interviewer is not comfortable around the interviewee. Interviews are extremely beneficial in a way that a person will compare the answers they are asking to their own way of answering the questions. It makes a person think more into the questions than just asking them up front.…

A). Perceiving objects in everyday aspects such as a living room with toys all over the floor, or a plate on the dining room table requires you to determine where the object begins and where it ends as you are measuring how much depth the item has (Gross, 167). You recognize the edges of each object as well as the belonging of each individual item to the tied environment. As infants grow up, they develop these abilities to be able to develop shadows to where the items edges are tied to the specific object. As the book states “movement appears to help infants perceive edges and objects.…
