The whole course has made me realize somethings that I should or shouldn’t be doing in terms of communicating with others. On the other hand, this assignment did help me learn more about social norms and communication. I learned that even if a person breaks a social norm, people do not usually say anything. I noticed that people will just give a person dirty looks for breaking a social norm, but as mentioned before, no one will say anything for breaking a social norm. However, I learned that when I am impolite and impatient it will make it harder for me to get what I want. Finally, I learned that it is important to have effective communication skills because if a person does not have effective communication skills then other people will not want to talk to or work with a…

I personally have noticed many changes throughout this course. I mostly noticed how now I analyze my jobs more with my coworkers, bosses and myself. I have one job that I absolutely love and another one that I do not care for very much, I did not really understand why because I get along well with my coworkers and higher ups. As our course went on and I started to understand business some more I then realized why there were certain things that were shaping my views about my jobs. One big thing that I noticed was the team work at my jobs.…

While in this course, I have acquired many skills by presenting and doing the many other activities we, as a class, did. I have acquired skills such as interviewing skills, personality skills, and presenting skills. This course has taught me to not be afraid of who I am and to stop being so shy because it decreases the quality of the presentation or interview. I also have gained skills such as, being bigger in presentations, being business presentable, leaning forward in interviews, knowing the business I am applying for, asking questions about the business, maintain eye contact throughout presentations or interviews, and even practicing. While presenting each of these presentations, it has taught me that if I do not practice my speeches before I present them then it is noticeable and takes the attention away from…

Slide 3 Introduction Effective Communication starts with the construction and preservation of virtuous operational interactions (Henderson, 2015). Effective Communication is an essential skill which is vital to be successful and is desirable or needed to develop good working relationships (Roberts, 2011). This is displayed by an individual having an awareness and understanding of the manner to which they influence people that they come in contact with (O'Toole, 2012, p.48). This is further displayed by having an awareness and understanding of the influences that these people have on the individual (O'Toole, 2012, p.48). To achieve effective communication being aware of the ‘self’ will gain insight into how the personality and communication styles can impact on interactions (O'Toole, 2012, p.48).…

How have you been able to utilize the information learned in this course outside the classroom? Consider other classes, work, job interview, church, club meetings, talking with others, etc. I honestly don’t know where to begin on how much this class has helped me, so let me just begin to tell you how shy I used to be before taking this class I struggled with being shy/ nervous for a long time for example in fifth grade I would never talked in class beside the exception of being called to answer a question from my teacher, but eventually I started coming out of my shell some when I finally reach high school I tried to step my game up, and talk to the girls at my high school which even then I had to talk myself up to it before I even walked over there and talked to a girl in general, but now thanks to taking this amazing class my confident levels have rose greatly I can talk in large groups including church events one example when I did world changers. Another this is talking to women it doesn’t matter where I’m at being a restaurant or even a night club I can have conversation on the fly with any woman without getting nervous all because, I took this…

Inclusive language means speaking in a way that includes and respects everyone, whether that be speaking about their thoughts and feelings, or their experiences. Speaking inclusively is not holding any judgements about a person prior to getting to know them. This is hard to do as many people unconsciously have judgements about people based on their own experiences. It is also easy to unknowingly offend someone by saying something or doing something they do not agree with. The only way someone will know if they have done this is if the person makes a face or says something.…

Notably, the most important thing that I learned in this class was how much time people typically spend communicating with one another. Moreover, “We spend 80-90% of our waking hours communicating, so interpersonal communication becomes central to our daily lives and vital to our well-being since it helps us form our personal identities and build connections with others” (Shelley). Furthermore, the most surprising bit of information that I learned about in class, was about a specific method unmarried couples used as a form of birth control. This technique was coined term, “petting”.…
