In chapter 1 the parts I like were, understanding the culture of higher education, and becoming an active learner. These parts were significant because it taught me that in order to understand college, I had to learn what it was. Having learned and adapted to the culture of higher education has helped me to avoid the consequences of culture shock in the future. Becoming an active learner as well, helps you to get the most out of the material that you need to learn, so you can learn effectively and get the best grades possible.
In chapter 2, the two meaningful parts that were significant to me were adopting a creator mindset, and changing your inner conversation. Adopting a creator mindset to me was important, because it taught me that I am responsible for my own future, and that I can not blame others for not achieving the outcomes that I wanted. I also learned how to take better responsibility and make the best choices possible to get to my goals. I was someone who tended to be more individualistic, rather than collectivistic. When things got difficult, I kept everything internally, and never asked for help. I realized that when I opened up and asked for help from others, something that was referred to as “weak”, made the impossible feel possible and achievable. Also, by having learned how to be more assertive, I learned how to communicate more effectively without criticizing myself and/or others, while also learning how to better say no when something does not help me to achieve my
