My Lenovo laptop is currently running on the 64-bit version of Windows 10 Home Edition operating system. The operating system is the most essential piece of software that is necessary to your computer, and without one a computer is more or less useless. The operating system could be compared to a manager or owner of a business or company; it communicates everything to your system and makes sure all your software, hardware, memory and processes, etc. are all working together and doing their job correctly to try and ensure that your computer will perform how it’s supposed to.
You could imagine a computer without an OS as akin to a store with no one to run it, and see why it is so vital. On top of everything else already stated, knowing which operating system you have is important to ensure you are downloading the correct versions of programs on to your system, so you have the software optimized specifically for that system. Most programs will advertise a different version for each OS, and the wrong version of that program is likely to not function properly. …show more content…
Random access memory is the amount of memory your computer has available to run programs. It is physically installed in your laptop, unlike virtual memory. Most laptops, in my experience, can do most basic tasks with only 4gb of RAM. Basic tasks would include Microsoft Office services, YouTube and Netflix, and things that don’t require much system memory to run. If you do not have enough RAM, you are likely to nice a drop in your computer’s performance. It is important to note that your computer has a method of creating more memory available if you are currently using all your available random access memory, and this is called virtual
