1.2.1 Studying Server Consolidation
Server consolidation is an approach to the capable usage of computer server sources in order to reduce the total number of servers or server location that an organization needs. The practice was developed in reply to the problem of “server sprawl,” a position in which several under-utilized servers take up more space and consume more sources than can be acceptable by their workload.
A few definitions provide a good starting point. Three terms are important to VMware:
1. Virtual Machine
2. Guest OS
3. Host OS.
Most middle is the Virtual Machine. It is a method of representing a real machine using software to manage the execution of an operating system. The operating system that is being controlled is called the “guest operating system”. The virtual-machine environment presents very accurately a real-machine environment. In VMware, the virtual processor is an Intel Pentium or later, depends on the host processor.

Different versions of Windows or Linux can run as a host OS. The guest OS runs in a virtual machine. Many operating systems existing on Intel chips can run as guest operating systems. In fact, even DOS is support in this mode. VMware GSX Server manages virtual machines to be remotely, routinely provisioned, and standardized on a secure, uniform platform. It transform physical computer into a pool of virtual machines. Operating systems and applications are remote in several virtual machines that are located in on a single part of hardware. VMware GSX Server provides broad hardware support by inheriting device support from the
