Organs transplants include kidney, heart, liver, lung, intestine, pancreas
3. The immune system attempts to defend the body against harmful substances such as germs, poisons, and sometimes, cancer cells. The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) gives the immune system the ability to distinguish between “self “and “nonself” antigens. If the “nonself” doesn’t match the “self” antigens then the MHC will begin to reject the transplanted organ.
4. Liver transplantation is known to have a better tolerance against MHC molecules than other organ transplantations. It is suggested that the liver is able to do this because of it large tissue size, its complement of immunosuppressive donor leucocytes, and the ability of hepatocytes to directly interact with and destroy antigen-specific T cells. Though there are suggestions of why the liver has a higher tolerance against MHC molecules, this phenomenon is not yet fully
