Feminism is series of beliefs that women should be treated as the capacity to become intellectual equally to men. Also, this ideology advocates women’s rights involving political, social, and economic opportunities. Some of the characters from the book, “The Great Gatsby”, who can relate to the ideology of their gender roles are Tom and Daisy. While Jordan Baker and Nick Carraway appear to not follow the traits of their assigned parts according to the traditional point of view. In addition to Daisy’s opinion about her gender, it can point out that she prefers her daughter to be judged based on what society says instead of being odd or different from other women. Also, another characteristic that describes how Buchanan is imprisoned by gender stereotypes is, when Merrie says that Daisy is, “....a seemingly fragile woman….controlled by her husband, Tom, who constantly condenses her.” This shows that she has no power over her marriage, and she is the one that has to obey her husband in order to please him.
