Module X Reflection

For my Introduction to Exceptional Children class I created a PowerPoint that demonstrates my research and knowledge gained on children with disabilities. For this particular artifact, my focus was on the Fragile X Syndrome. Throughout the course I intensively researched the disability, as well, as interviewed a mother of a child with Fragile X. I wrote a research paper on the characteristics of the disability, the accommodations/modifications for teaching students with the disability, and a paper that reflected on the interview of a mother with a son affected with Fragile X. I chose this disability because I know the child with Fragile X and had never heard of it before. I see the constant battles with the disability and how it has affected every aspect of their lives. I became profoundly familiar with Fragile X and I am excited to share my knowledge with others who are unfamiliar. Through my research and creation of my PowerPoint presentation on Fragile X, I was able to demonstrate my knowledge and understanding of the indicators of the Illinois Professional Teaching Standard 3. I achieved the Illinois Professional Teaching Standard Knowledge Indicator 3C, “understands cultural, linguistic, cognitive, physical, and social and emotional differences, and considers the needs of each …show more content…
This provided me with an abundance of knowledge and resources to create individualized modifications and accommodations to benefit my future student’s learning.
