Essay on Overpopulation And Its Effects On The Environment
When researching this project, I was really surprised by what I found. To me overpopulation does not sound as bad as it really is. In fact, I did not it had any affect on the environment. I thought that overpopulation only affected how much resources we have and it does, but it does affect many other things as well. It is like a chain reaction. One thing affects another thing, which affects another thing, and that thing affects another thing. First of all, what is Overpopulation and how does it occur? Overpopulation occurs when a species has a population larger than the ecosystem can support.
Resources become limited and drastic measures have to be made. However the food chains can help with overpopulation. Often times, overpopulation in animals can be solved by the increase of predators. Everything has to have a balance and becoming overpopulated can destroy that balance. In order to maintain the balance, there has to be prey and a predator. If the amount of prey decreases, the amount of predators will decrease as well. If the amount of predators decreases then the amount of prey will increase. Think of it as a domino affect. When looking at a food web, everything is connected to each other like a puzzle. If one piece of the puzzle is taken out, it does not work. That is why overpopulation is a big threat. It destroys the balance of our ecosystem.
Overpopulation can lead to species extinction as well. As mentioned before, everything has a balance and our…
