Overcoming Tragedy “It’s part of life to have obstacles. It’s about overcoming obstacles, that’s the key to happiness”- Herbie Hancock. Tragedy is an event causing great suffering, depression, and distress. Lot’s of people in our world suffer tragedies. These tragedies can either be small and non-harmful or big and very harmful. They range anywhere from getting a bad grade on a test to losing one of your good friends to cancer. The one thing about tragedies though, small or big, is that no matter what you can always overcome them.

IQ Matrix states, “Each and every decision we have made and action we have taken has set events into motion creating predictable and specific effects that we are now experiencing in our lives”. For every cause or something that happens in life there is always an effect to go along with it. In the Where Things Come Back there is a bully named Russell Quitman who bullied the main character Cullen. Cullen has so much hatred for him, it’s almost unhealthy. In The Secret Life of Bees the main character Lily wants to find where her mom ran off to when she was little. As she goes on her journey she meet the Boatwright sisters. With them she finds who she really is, “You have to find a mother inside yourself” pg.288. When August, one of the Boatwright sisters said this, Lily realizes that she needs to find herself in order to truly find her mom. In The Power of One, Peekay was picked on as a little kid and told that he could never really amount to anything at all. As he goes on in his life and starts boxing he realized that he can do anything he puts his mind to, “I had waited a long time for this moment, I knew exactly what to do” pg.522.
