Monash University in Malaysia researched The Relationship between Facebook Attachment and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Severity. They hypothesized that extensive Facebook use and OCD severity would have a positive correlation. Facebook related studies have findings suggesting heavy Facebook usage and mental health hold a positive relationship (Lee, Park, & Tam, 2015, p.1). Previous studies performed advocated a positive relationship among substantial Facebook use and mental health, but has not pinpointed OCD specifically which is where Lee and colleagues devised their theory. “It can be conjectured that salient desire for media use may be seen to resemble a form of obsession, while the inability to engage in self-control in response to this desire may resemble a form of compulsive behavior” (Lee et al., 2015, p.2). As stated earlier in the paper, an obsession is the thought while caring out the act is a compulsion. This study is relevant to today’s society because Facebook is so prevalently used. According to Facebooks website the company had 1 Billion people actively used Facebook daily for September 2015 and 894 million of those site visits were performed on mobile devices (“Newsroom Company Info,” 2015). The numbers alone suggest that phones and social networking sites have become a pivotal part of society. Today we live in a world were “no cellphone use allowed” signs have to be displayed everywhere, and people feel they cannot turn their devices off for a 1 hour class. The Facebook study is interesting because it sheds light on obsessive use and mental health. To conduct this study a survey was created to asses Obsessive Compulsive severity and Facebook use with obsessive beliefs as the mediator. The study involved 156 students chosen by a convenience sampling taking a questionnaire. By examining obsessive beliefs as the mediator in hopes to clarify a relationship between Facebook
