RP’s Case File
Obesity is a disease that creates mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional challenges for the individuals affected (Dreber, Reynisdottir, Angelin, & Hemmingsson, 2015). In an interview with a previously obese individual, RP discussed her medical history which included an array of co-morbid conditions. RP under when gastric bypass surgery two years prior to our interview, has since lost 100 pounds and is now in excellent health (RP, personal communication, April 23, 2016). In the interview with RP, a 59-year-old female, we discovered that RP has a history of diabetes, congestive heart failure, hypothyroidism, sleep apnea, and obesity (RP). RP no longer requires insulin for her diabetes and has been taken off of all of her medications except for her thyroid medication (RP). While RP has improved her physical health since her surgery and weight loss, she must now learn to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The purpose of this assignment is to discuss the challenges RP has faced to obtain balance in her mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional health.
Challenges Overcome
RP mentions her physical health improvements and explains that she now walks five miles a day (RP, personal communication, April 23, 2016). RP mentioned that she would previously have been out of breath after walking from her car to the front door (RP). RP has struggled with diabetes for most of her adult life but she has now been taken off all of her medication as her disease symptoms…
