How can society expect to change their perception on obesity when all the fast food outlets do is provide us with a quicker, more convenient meals? And it doesn’t help that all they seem to do is advertise. They everywhere! The radio, TV, billboards and magazines. It’s not a wonder that families these days are being exposed to unhealthy eating habits, with convenience being of top priority. Nowadays, ‘convenience’ is straying families and individuals away from the healthy options and promoting that a quick easy fast food meal is the way to go. With families becoming busier in everyday life, there isn’t as much time as there used to be for a home cooked meal with the family. Not only this, but the advertising is trying to promote that some of these options are actually healthy fast food, not just something fried in litres of oil and fat. There are so many ways that the government could help this growing obesity epidemic, however often choose to do nothing about it.
Advertising can and will appeal to any age group, however the most vulnerable to this trap are the younger generations. Bright packaging and fun characters are just some of the persuasive technique that companies use to brand their products, making them more appealing to their demographic (CSPINET, 2016).
