Arriving in America was one of the happiest days of my life, everything seemed to be better. I thought to myself if I can enjoy life anywhere, this is the perfect place to achieve that. I enjoyed going out for walks between the tight New York City blocks, riding my bike in central park, taking the train and exploring new location at different station and most of all I enjoyed the food. I enjoyed it so much that I started to overeat and for the first time I was gaining weight at a fast rate. I was always a skinny person who struggled to gain weight no matter what I ate. I didn’t like how I felt due my weight gain. I was lazier, not interested in doing activities and started to prefer indoors to the outdoors, that was the first time I became food conscious and was interested in know more about obesity and what causes it.
According to the CDC, More than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese. Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer and it’s also one of the leading cause of preventable death. There are many reasons that can cause obesity. For example, Modern lifestyle and ease of access had pushed for a stationary lifestyle. Accompanied by the abundance of Fast-food Industry with the “Super Size” me portions, modern conveniences of technology at work and home, and even genetically modified food, all lead to unhealthy lifestyles.
