In Tiananmen Square in 1989, a protest led to violence. It started with a group of college students that learned about democracy. These students held a protest to try to change their government. In a short amount of time, the numbers grew, and the Chinese government was intolerant. The military was sent to stop the protest, and many lives were ended. This protest led to violence even though the protesters meant no harm to anyone.
Nonviolent protests are inexcusable if they create a culture of lawbreaking. In the 1940s in South Africa, there were many apartheid protests. One of these protests was to purposely break apartheid laws to show a rebellion. This led to other, more important laws being broken. The entire culture changed to be against laws until, after a long time, the apartheid laws were removed. Although apartheid laws are inexcusable, developing culture of lawlessness can have a very negative result.
Some people will say that protests are the only way for them to get their point across, however, other options are petitions and boycotts. Other people say protests are a good method anytime because it gets people’s attention. One could easily argue that not all attention is good
