Newton's Laws of Motion surround people everyday. People see them everyday but do they really know what they are and why they're here? The laws are here to understand why and what happens when using forces. Newton's laws have everything to do with forces and motion. There are three laws; the first being every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. The second is the relationship between an object's mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma in this law the direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector. Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to any change in its state of motion (this includes changes to its speed, direction or state of rest). It is the tendency of objects to keep moving in a straight line at constant velocity. Basically in simple terms, when an object is sitting still or moving and not speeding up or slowing down but staying in a constant velocity, it will stay that way as long as no other forces are applied to it. An excellent example of this would be placing a can on a table. A normal can with no special properties as same with the table. After the can is placed it will just sit there and not move because there are no forces being acted upon …show more content…
There are four types of forces regularely seen in force diagrams (force diagrams are diagrams showing all the forces being applied to an object). These four forces are; the normal force, the applied force, the friction force, and the gravity force. The applied force is a force being applied to the object such as a hand pushing a box, the hand would be the applied force. The applied force is written all over Newton's Second Law because the law basically states that if something were to push an object it would be described as the mass and the acceleration combined through
