New study challenges former declarations of scientist that LB1, or Homo floresiensis mostly know as the “Flores Hobbit” diagnoses of down syndrome was in fact an invalid scientific hypothesis. Which help further develop the hobbits status of becoming independent and distinguished as a separate species of the genus Homo.
The name Homo floresiensis was derived from nine fragmentary skeletons found in the Liang Bua cave on the Indonesian island of flores in 2003. It was described as a small bodied hominin. LB1 was one of the specimens discovered which was a nearly complete skull which could be matched with a pair of thigh bones. LB1 was thought to be an adult female around the age of 30 years old. She had cranial measurements of three hundred eighty cubic centimeters, suggesting she had a brain a little less than thirty three percent the size of the average modern humans. Her thigh bones were also very short which when reconstructed and modeled made a specimen that measured one hundred and nine centimeters in height. Its skull had human-like teeth, she had no chin, and a receding forehead. It used stone tools and fire and also things like komodo dragons pygmy elephants, and giant rats. It is now believed that LB1 was a dwarf form of Homo Erectus. There was belief that the tools that were found with it were not made by LB1 but, Homo sapiens. This was believed mainly because scientist could not wrap their head around the idea of a creature with such small brain making tools…
