Why Nellie was relieved when she was awake from her dream? Nellie a marriage obsessed girl who dreamt a negetive dream about her future husband she realized that it was just a bad dream. Maybe she was over expecting about her life with full of fantasy and without any obstacles that’s why she felt relieved when she woke up. Nellie was like them. She always thought about her future husband. At first her dream of happy life then it continued to scare her because of her inability to imagine the reality. Suddenly her interaction with the district doctor because of her husband illness that was the reality she faced and she was unaware of it. She was encountering many difficult situations of life. Nellie was begging to the doctor to come over her place and treat her husband. She brought the doctor to her home by a carriage and they drove thirty miles to reach her home. After this long journey she couldn’t help her husband as she saw “the doctor was as delirious as her husband”. All this uncertain obstacles she was facing she imagined this were reality. By using, Nellie’s dream Chekhov is able to depict the condition of modern generation youngsters how they overlook their life, how they underestimate the reality and always want to live in fantasy. They do not take the life seriously and fail to think about the uncertainty of the different hurdle. She was really relieved from the grey background. Maybe this is because she was afraid of real life, didn’t want her dream to be realistic and denies this reflection of her dream about her future. All she wanted a happy marriage life with fantasy. Chekhov wrote a valuable story as it’s a lesson for the young age they should prepare them for every uncertainty of their future life instead of dreaming full of happy ending. In the story, when Nellie’s dream broken, she expressed her relief with a sigh as she was not prepared for the difficulties she wanted to forget the negative part of her dream. She should learn a lesson from her dream as it’s an indication of her future life, realistic view of her future that she should prepare herself for every
