Since the creation of electricity, people have searched for the most efficient source of energy. There are many common sources of energy, and they all have their own flaws. Many of the common energy sources are nonrenewable resources; therefore, they are not a logical source of energy for the future. Some of the energy creating processes can be very dangerous to humans and the environment. Many of these sources are not economical either. To be considered efficient, an energy source must be feasible, safe, and economical.
Coal is a commonly used source of energy. Coal is responsible for about 40 percent of the energy produced around the world. Coal is a black or brown rock made mostly of carbon from decomposed plants and animals. The coal is mined and pulverized. It is then sent to a power plant to be converted into energy. The crushed coal is burned to produce heat. The heat is then used to boil water which is evaporated, creating steam. The steam then spins a turbine that powers a generator. The generator creates electricity, and the energy is relayed to people around the world.
Although coal has good effects on the economy, it is harmful to the environment, and it will be hard to obtain in the near future. Coal is very beneficial to the economy. The labor to mine the coal is relatively cheap because it is unskilled labor. There are very few qualifications required to work in a coal mine. Because coal supplies so much of the energy around the world, it is a huge industry.…
