NY Times Article Summary

In my reading of the NY Times, many teachers chimed in to agree that the advancement in technology had made their students attention span shorter, and had made them less efficient. They also agreed upon the fact that students now give up more quickly on more challenging tasks. According to the NY times, “ Teachers who were not involved in the surveys echoed their findings in interviews, saying they felt they had to work harder to capture and hold students’ attention.” (Richtel, Matt, 1 Nov. 2012). The author of this article chose to emphasize the fact that, technology may be having a negative impact on kids thinking because many teachers agree that teaching has become more difficult. Also because this was the biggest change that has occurred since the advancement of technology. …show more content…
In this article I thought the responses from the teachers were very interesting. I thought they would’ve agreed that technology helped the students more, but instead they felt technology was the cause of slowness. This article made me notice that not everybody uses technology as a way to improve in education, but sometimes a distraction. Because I too, sometimes get distracted by technology, I can see why they see technology as an obstacle for education. Especially because we are allowed i pads at school it puts the idea of the useage of technology into a different view. What I found puzzling was that, many students don't view the advancement in technology as an advantage to boost their education, but often technology sidetracks them without even knowing it. For example, students can do so much more with education now due to the promotion of technology we have, but sometimes advancing means distractions such as social media.
