I believe that the purpose of education is to prepare students for higher education so they can succeed later in life. To help students achieve this, it is necessary to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to make it further with their education and achieve their goals. According to Oakes and Lipton (2003), education insures equality of opportunity. In my opinion every child has the ability to become anything they want to be when they grow up, and it takes a good teacher to help a student mold himself or herself into that character that they want to be. Education allows and guides children to develop their passions and critical thinking.
Learning Environment
My role as an educator is to promote positive learning so that students feel comfortable, safe and engaged. In a classroom where values remain constant and focus is placed on the positive aspects of learning, students will be more open to actively participating in class. Also, I believe that providing meaningful learning activities for the students will motivate them to learn new material. In addition I will provide opportunities for small groups discussions and cooperative learning. I believe that individuals can support each other in the learning process by asking each other questions and by sharing different strategies for solving a problem.
