Professional Biography To those that know me, I was born Natasha Rene’ Epps in October of 1972. I was raised in Spring Valley, New York by a single mom who worked as a nurse to provide for her children. At an early age I was taught to be independent and to stand on my own two feet. I’m very thankful for the wisdom my mom bestowed upon me as she taught me how to become a responsible person. Many of the lessons I learned from her have shaped who I am as a teacher, mother, sister, and friend. As I take you on my journey of becoming an educator, I hope you enjoy the joys and pains that have made me the person that I am today. At an early age my mother often worked long hours to provide for her children and my brother and I often spent …show more content…
I really don’t want my efforts or my student’s efforts for an entire year to be determined by one day of testing. Accountability truly should be based on individual student growth over the course of a school year. Growth can be documented throughout the school year with classroom assessments, standardized tests, and other forms of schoolwork. Using a system that analyzes individual growth lends itself to more students being successful.Teachers should be held accountable for documenting student growth in various ways through a portfolio that is set up and maintained with student work samples throughout the year. Teachers reflect on student growth in the form of a paper. If a teacher has a student that isn’t showing any growth at a certain point in the year, a discussion could be held with an administrator to determine what other steps need to be taken to help the learner grow. All of the aforementioned ideas are things that I have thought about for a while. I’m really wanting to get away from judging students’ achievement levels. and teachers’ effectiveness based on one day of

Even after a busy day of work, my mother still was able to make time for me. This slows got me interesting into reading and until this day I still love to read books. Also, even now she sacrifices her time to encourage me that I can keep on doing good in school and to never give up. Without her sacrifices her time for me, then I wouldn’t get the encouragement i needed to strive better in life academically and the love to read . She instilled in me the value of education and she sacrificed her time and comfort to ensure that I acquired the best education. During this period, my country provided its citizens with a low standard government-sponsored high school education. While other low-income parents jumped at this opportunity, my mom refused to allow her children become victims of an unfair socioeconomic system where the elite were able to attain the best quality of education. Despite the financial hardships, my mom took out loans from her place of work to pay the high-priced tuition of private high school where I would obtain the best education. After working for nine hours and preparing dinner for her family, my mother created time to assist me with homework and studying.…

Students take a test, and get their score back, typically it is a passing score or a failing score. The growth of a student is not measured (Columbia University, “Pros and Cons of Standardized Testing”). We are punishing the teachers for their students failing a test, but what if that teacher took the student from the bottom of the scale to really close to passing. The teacher will not get rewarded for how much they have improved, but punished because they failed a test (Tim Walker, NEA Survey). We are not testing the knowledge of students in the correct…

I was born in San Jose, California and my family moved to Ohio, the heartland of America, soon after. I remember always peering through the window by the stairs as the snow fell then sledding down the snowy driveway with glee. During my childhood, I spent a year in China experiencing my cultural roots. My family then moved to Los Angeles where I have spent nearly thirteen years of my life exposed to a blend of different cultures and communities. The diversity encourages me to stay true to my background and enjoy standing out rather than fitting in.…
