1. The story of Nightjohn reveals insight into cruel truths in American history as it follows the encounters of a 12-year-old slave young lady (Sarny) in the 1850s. Sarny uncovered the abuse suffered by her people on the plantation. Sarny knows the consequence for learning how to read and write, but agrees to learn it from Night John( new slave) who offers to teach her the alphabet. John says that figuring out how to read is freedom since slavery is limited by laws and deeds which the slaves can not read. Sarny's energy towards reading gets her and the rest of the slaves in trouble from Clel (the plantation master), who restricts any slave from having the capacity to read. At the point when inconvenience follows, Sarny utilizes her capacity to read against Mr. Waller to save her fellow slaves. This film shows the idea of how slaves sacrifices things for each other for the future generation. For example, Night John sacrifices his freedom as a free black man and returns back to slave to teach other slaves in plantation how to read and write. That someday would be able to use that skill to escape to the north and became a free person. Just as Nightjohn made sacrifices for the future generations, today people continue to make sacrifices for the better. In my life, mother has sacrificed their time for my academic development through reading books every night to me when I was little. Even after a busy day of work, my mother still was able to make time for me. This slows got me interesting into reading and until this day I still love to read books. Also, even now she sacrifices her time to encourage me that I can keep on doing good in school and to never give up. Without her sacrifices her time for me, then I wouldn’t get the encouragement i needed to strive better in life academically and the love to read .
