Paragraph About Swimming

My home isn’t actually a place, but a passion. Home, for me, is the pool. I have put a lot of hard work and dedication into my swimming and the hard work and dedication shows. After a meet I can feel good about myself. My times would drop and I would be happy with what I got. The drop in times show that I have worked hard enough to get better and I’m still only getting better. When I see the times I got I am relieved and all my bad emotions turn into good emotions, all the worries are gone. Swimming has been a part of my life for 7 going on 8 years now. My very first team was called Aquatechs or AQTC. Every swimmer has said once in their lifetime that they have always hated swimming, but they wouldn’t give it up for anything. I have done many sports in my lifetime, but never really found a sport that stuck like swimming has. Most of the sports I have done have only lasted about 1 year. My swimming career started in November of 2008. I was about 10 years old. I have been swimming for 7 going on 8 years now. I first heard about swimming from one of my friends that was on the team. The coach was a very intimidating at first. Now my best friend, brother and I are her favorite swimmers. We actually stuck with her when swimming time where tough. The coach didn’t have enough money to pay to keep the pool heated. The pool water was about 60 degrees, for water that is very cold and definitely for that time of year. It was during winter. It was so cold that you would be shivering while you were swimming and couldn’t warm up. I remember after practice I would lay one of my towels on the floor and take my other one and ball up and just lay there and try to warm up. I always dreaded going to practice because it was so cold, but I stuck with it and I’m glad that I never gave it up. Everyone left after the first

The central idea of this story, ¨Swimming for Her Life¨ by Kristin Lewis is about never giving up on your dreams even when times are hard. Because when Yusra and Sarah were on there way to germany and their boat stopped they jumped into the water and pushed the boat. That shows an example of courage and their dream of getting to germany never broken. And I also say that the central idea of the article is to never give up on your dreams is because, when Yusra and Sarah were little they wanted to be in the olympics when they grow up and when Yusra head there was going to be a team for refugees she tried out. The swimming pools, in “The Swimmer”, represent Neddie’s journey down the road to addiction and the consequences that his dependency has on his life and body. Neddie’s state of mind as he begins his addiction is described, “He had an inexplicable contempt for men who did not hurl themselves into pools. […] To be embraced and sustained by the light green water was less a pleasure, it seemed, than the resumption of a natural condition,” (Cheever, 777). Neddie describes the feeling that drinking alcohol gives him as though he is returning to some raw state of being. The swimming pools themselves are a man-made attempt to provide nature within a suburban setting that is lacking.…

The Swimmer - two presentations, two experiences The movie The Swimmer is based on a short-story by John Cheever. In it, a man named Neddy Merrill decides he is going to swim through a series of his neighbors swimming pools in an effort to get home. Along the way, he finds out that things that he thought about his life and himself are not what they seem. Both the movie and the short story follow a similar plot line, but by comparing the two closely, it is easy to see that there are many differences such as the amount of background information and the dependency upon people, as well as similarities such as Neddys deception of himself.…

When I was a child my uncle was a second father to me. I used to be on a year round swim team and although he lived in the bay area he would be at almost every meet. He would also introduce me to new sports and activities which I could never forget. As I turned eleven years old he completely disappeared from my life for what seemed like no reason. A year later my parents began receiving letters from him explaining how much he hated them and how he wished the worst for me and my sisters.…

“If you trip on the mat, you won’t get the forfeit” was what I was told before my very first meet, and before I was introduced to everyone as a wrestler. The wrestling world is usually dominated by men, but every once in awhile a girl comes into it and takes control. As I stepped onto the mat, I saw my parents with a huge smile, and my coach and team were clapping and proud that I was out there, at least I hope, it was more of a blur to me. Even when I lost a match, which was just about all of them, everyone encouraged me to continue on and I did and it made me a different and better person. Coming into freshmen year, I was the quiet unnoticed one.…

The Lesson in Quitting For the past 7 years of my life, swimming has played a huge role. Growing up, I had always enjoyed being in the water, and was one of the odd kids that genuinely enjoyed swimming lessons, no bribes required (thinking about it, I wish I had some of those kids in the lessons I teach now). Overtime, it began to feel less like a passion and more like an obligation; something I had committed to that was too late to stop. I was afraid to quit, afraid to disappoint, and trying to be dedicated to a sport I had lost interest in made me start to hate it. This year, I finally decided to drop the sport, and am now embracing the huge change it has had in my life.…

I sat down by myself and reflected. After tens of thousands of hours of devotion, swimming has become a huge part of who I am, and will no doubt shape the person I will come to be. One of the earliest lessons swimming taught me was to never give up. When I was 9, swimming taught me to fight the fatigue during lap two of a race. When I was twelve, swimming taught me to attack race two with everything I had, even if race one hadn't gone my way.…

Third-person limited narration and first-person present tense/retrospective narration are two different types of narrations used in literature. These narrations can be seen in Uplike’s “A & P” and Cheever’s “The Swimmer”. “A & P” is about a man named Sammy who works in a grocery store. He notices a group of three girls dressed in bathing suits walk in. As they walk around the store, Sammy cannot stop looking at them.…
