Neutropenia Case Study

Improved Essays
One summer after a family swimming adventure, Vaniya had shown signs of an illness that

could not be contained at home. After numerous phone calls and visits to her pediatrician, the mutual

decision was made to take her to the E.R. Somewhere around the fourteenth or fifteenth hour,

frustration was rearing it 's ugly head just around the corner, when finally the doctor came in and said

that they were going to admit her into the hospital. The diagnosis was Neutropenia with no known

origin. Now begins the mission to find out what, where ,why, how, when and who. Why is this

happening to my child and what an we do to fix it?

General Presentation

Neutropenia is an abnormally low level of neutrophils. Neutrophils are a common

A children 's hospital in

Washington,D.C. was conducted for about five years. The only participants that were allowed to

participate had to meet certain guidelines such as a low neutrophil count of 1500 or less, have a low

B12 blood count or prior cancer diagnosis. The only symptom that fit Vaniya was the 1500 or less

neutrophil count(which 1500 is minimum average for any healthy child or adult). Vaniya 's neutrophil

count was 0! The doctors performed spinal taps, bone marrow biopsies and countless blood tests which

turned up no real concrete evidence as to what was happening to this baby girl who was barely six

months old. Now we were at a crossroad of where do we go from here. With Vaniya 's new diagnosis, 1 we had to bleach everything and try to keep everything around her as clean as possible. This was no

easy task.

The Purpose

The problem that we now are facing is that since her diagnosis, Vaniya has developed eczema,

asthma and food and environmental allergies. There were no signs of any of these illnesses prior to

Even with the neupogen shots

that we had to inject into her three times per week, her numbers never came up. I am convinced that

with the proper Neutropenia treatment, her eczema allergies and asthma will be healed by the blood of

JESUS!

The Method

If we look at the chain of events, we see that none of the other health problems occurred before

she entered the swimming pool. One theory is that the pool was not cleaned properly, therefor

infecting future swimmers. The doctors kept asking the same questions but it didn 't dawn on me to

until a few months later.I never thought of the swimming pool being the source of anything since I

know that the pool is suppose to have a certain amount of chlorine to help keep swimmers safe.As I

began to speak with more and more residents, I found out that many of the children from the complex

had gotten sick with various ailments and the only common factor was the swimming pool.

Unfortunately, by the time I went back to the apartment complex ,they had already hired new people

that had cleaned the pool according to the company 's

The first day of the Ohio State Fair had visitors smiling faces turn into the look of terror within seconds as they watched a ride break apart right before their eyes. According to WCPO, the "Fire Ball" ride cracked while riders were on it throwing their bodies at least 20-30 feet into the air as they were ejected from the ride as it was swinging and spinning around. Terrified witnesses watched as the riders slammed to the concrete ground. Dr. David Evans of OSU Medical Center explained "multiple passengers were ejected at high speed" then "crashed at a significant distance from the ride." ABC News reports 18-year-old Columbus, Ohio, resident Tyler Jarrell, lost his life when he was flung into the air while malfunctioning ride fell apart.…
