Essay On Frog Dissection

My earliest memory of science is from 5th grade in Mr. Kern’s class. I remember we had a unit on sea creatures, and we got to take care of and study fish and crawfish. I loved this activity because it was so hands on and we were the caretakers of the creatures, so we did all the work. It was really our own experiment, not just something out of a book. We all loved coming into class in the morning and running to see our new pets, and one day I noticed my crawfish had lost its shell. We learned about molting by watching it happen and seeing the changes the creatures went through, rather than reading about it or just seeing pictures. This science unit is the one I always think about when I imagine myself teaching science in an elementary school one day. Middle school took a step up with science, to explore deeper into the things around us. We did this both metaphorically and literally, when we cut open rocks and animals to see what was hidden deep inside. My first experience with a dissection was certainly a memorable one. My science teacher, Ms. Kroc, wore her frog socks and jewelry for frog …show more content…
It was because they loved what they taught so much that I was able to look past the stinky smells and boring lectures on rocks and have fun learning about science in the world. I remember Mrs. Kroc the most from middle school because she made a simple dissection lab into a fun day to look forward to. All of the activities I did in these science classes were ones that were hands on and something that I felt like I was doing on my own. Science is done by experimentation. You can read all you want in a book about chemical reactions, but you don’t get the same feeling as when you actually change the color of fire by adding chemicals to it yourself. When kids are allowed to do all the work, they realize that science isn’t just for

My sixth grade year did not do my thoughts for the future any justice, I had a lot of trouble adjusting to the workload from elementary school. I had always liked science but Mr. Lilly made me love it regardless of the work he put in front of us. He had the ability to turn the most boring topics into an action packed class period. The best part about his class was that we were his first period, his guinea pigs as he called us. We always had the luxury of trying his labs and testing his scavenger…

Seventh Grade was one of the funniest, scariest, and best year yet. My English teacher, one of the meanest teacher in the school, and of course! I had to have her as my English teacher, but it was still a great year. I was, and still am in band. I played the tuba and I enjoyed it. It was like bliss when I could belch out a few notes. It made it so worth it when we went to competitions. I remember learning to read actual music. It was more difficult than I originally thought it would have been. I believe it made me a better reader and writer. The band teacher taught me to do all of that.…

Either being a field trip or something that again involved interacting with something. I noticed through talking with people, the most memorable lessons, aside from those someones personally connected with were most commonly in chemistry class and typically involved a teacher playing with fire. Along with this point, the friend I had with me in the same high school English in which I felt as though I had the most memorable unit, that same friend only remembered it because I talk about every so often and because of our shared experience in said class. This friend’s frainoir lesson was something else entirely, though it did line up with some college classmates in that it took place in a science class during an…

If I remember correctly, 4th grade was the year when I first wore glasses. I am very nearsighted, so when I first got my glasses I felt relieved, again. Now, when you are a senior in high school you tend to look more into those old photos of yourself and notice how awkward you looked. I had a bit of baby weight on me, and I didn’t know how to smile. But, that did not stop my love for school. Every morning we did a “morning meeting,” and sat in a circle. On Mondays, we reflected on our weekend and did quacky activities. This was the first time we had more than one teacher. In 4th grade, we had two teachers: Ms. Growl who taught Math and Science, and Ms. Kleinpeter who taught English and Social Studies. I remember winning first place in our school’s…

At the end of fifth grade we had the middle school counselor come and talk to us in our auditorium. All of our questions were literally about one thing. Dress code. The new middle school would have uniforms. “Green, grey, white, and black polos along with kaki or black pants.” I even hated the idea of dress codes. But I was really excited to go to a new school. I still had a long year of fifth grade to go. Milestones specifically.…

After unzipping our cadaver’s body bag and slicing through the industrial plastic sheath in which our school’s embalmer had wrapped him just a few weeks earlier, all I could think of was how much this man resembled Walter Matthau from “Grumpy Old Men”. So naturally, our group started calling him Walt. A month later, after progressing through Walt’s back, thorax, and abdomen, it was time to dive into the retroperitoneal space. On almost every other day I was asked to stand back and read the dissection manual. My group attributed this to my uncanny ability to rip out every significant and testable structure I laid my hands upon. However, that morning the leverage my height afforded me was utilized to crane over Walt and access his paranephric…
